Ronald Acu?a Jr. received good news on Monday, when he learned he will not be placed on the injured list.
The Braves announced that an MRI performed in New York showed Acu?a¡¯s abdominal strain is mild. The superstar outfielder is listed as day to day.
While Acu?a might be limited or miss time during a two-game series at Yankee Stadium that begins Tuesday, it appears there is a chance he could return to action by the end of the week.
Acu?a exited Sunday night¡¯s 13-4 win over the Cubs after sliding headfirst across the plate on Travis d¡¯Arnaud's sacrifice fly in the fourth inning. During that same trip around the bases, Acu?a had pointed to his stomach a couple times after diving back to first base on pickoff attempts. He had convinced Snitker and trainer Mike Frostad he was fine when they went to second base to check on him after a Freddie Freeman walk.
¡°I don¡¯t know if he did it [on the pickoff attempts], but that¡¯s what aggravated it for sure,¡± Braves manager Brian Snitker said.
After sliding into home, Acu?a remained on the ground momentarily and then grabbed his abdominal region as he walked back to the dugout without assistance.
