July 22: OF Luis Robert placed on 10-day injured list; C Yasmani Grandal reinstated from 10-day injured list
Robert¡¯s light-headedness and blurred vision have not been fully resolved, so he was placed on the injured list retroactive to July 19. Grandal finished 9-for-25 with two home runs, five RBIs, 13 walks and five runs scored in his injury rehab stints with Double-A Birmingham and Triple-A Charlotte.
¡°He looks great,¡± White Sox manager Tony La Russa said of Grandal. ¡°Talked to the folks down in Charlotte. They say they were really impressed with his whole game. So, we can use his boost.¡±
INJURY UPDATES
Day-to-day
10-day & 15-day IL
OF Luis Robert (blurred vision)
Expected return: July 28
General manager Rick Hahn spoke about Robert¡¯s physical issues prior to the start of the second half of the season and didn¡¯t want to speculate on any sort of root cause for the problems. If all goes well, Robert would be eligible to return at the start of the next homestand.
¡°All I can tell you is I¡¯m not sitting on any information at this time or keeping from you anything,¡± Hahn said. ¡°He¡¯s seeing the right people, getting the right tests done.
¡°Part of the reason he¡¯s going on the IL right now is it¡¯s more than seven days of inactivity at this point, and we need to ramp a guy back up prudently when that occurs. Ideally his symptoms are fully resolved in the coming days, we ramp him back up and he¡¯s back when we start the next homestand." (_Last updated: July 22_)
LHP Aaron Bummer (left lat strain)
Expected return: Sept. 1
Bummer remains in the early stages of his throwing program and is still a couple of weeks away from throwing off a mound.
¡°It's kind of six weeks without throwing and then building up now,¡± Bummer said. ¡°Obviously, the progression to get back is going to take a bit longer than normal, just based purely on the amount of time we've had off. Things are definitely starting to feel better and move in the right direction.
¡°As of right now, it would be early September, I believe. Hopefully before that. Everything is moving in the right direction. Working with the training staff and the pitching coaches to make sure we're doing everything that we can and that whenever we're back, we're ready to go when we get there." (Last updated: July 22)
RHP Kyle Crick (right elbow inflammation)
Expected return: TBD
Crick will undergo further testing to determine the source and severity of the irritation, manager Tony La Russa said on June 15.
"Even in spring, there were days he had some soreness," La Russa added. "He has kind of a very aggressive delivery, so we've watched him very carefully since the first bullpen of Spring Training and backed him off when we had to. Hopefully, it's more like that." (Last updated: June 15)
60-day IL
SS Danny Mendick (torn ACL in right knee)
Expected return: TBD
A day after colliding with left fielder Adam Haseley on Santiago Espinal's foul popup in the second inning, Mendick was placed on the 10-day IL with a torn ACL in his right knee. On July 6, he was transferred to the 60-day injured list. (Last updated: July 6)
LHP Garrett Crochet (UCL damage)
Expected return: Out for the season
Crochet was set to move into the Michael Kopech starter/reliever hybrid role in 2022, but he underwent Tommy John surgery on April 5 and was transferred to the 60-day IL on May 17. (Last updated: May 17)
RHP Jonathan Stiever (right lat surgery)
Expected return: TBD
Stiever, 24, underwent season-ending surgery on his right lat on Aug. 23, 2021. He spent most of last season with Triple-A Charlotte but made one start for the White Sox. His move to the 60-day IL, coupled with the addition of Yoan Aybar, leaves the White Sox 40-man roster at 40. (Last updated: March 24)
