Marlins pitchers and catchers report to big league camp on Wednesday, ushering in the start of the club¡¯s 2025 journey.
Here's a quick guide to Marlins Spring Training:
When is the first workout for pitchers and catchers?
Wednesday
What is the date of the first full-squad workout?
Feb. 17
Where is the team¡¯s facility?
The Roger Dean Chevrolet Stadium complex is located in Jupiter, Fla., around 83 miles north of loanDepot park.
Can fans attend workouts?
Access for fans will begin on Wednesday, with free admittance to workouts on the backfields. Complimentary parking will be located in front of the backfield entrance gates for preseason workouts.
Who are some new faces fans should know?
Right-hander Connor Gillispie, catcher Liam Hicks, first baseman Matt Mervis, third baseman Eric Wagaman and outfielder Albert Almora Jr.
Gillispie was a waiver claim, and if 2024 was any indication, the front office can find under-the-radar relief arms that way. Hicks, who was selected in the Rule 5 Draft, must make the Opening Day roster or be returned to the Tigers. He has not played above the Double-A level, but Miami was confident enough in his bat to give him a shot.
Mervis is a former top prospect that the Marlins acquired via trade from the Cubs as a change-of-scenery project. Miami is thin at first base, so he should get consistent playing time. Wagaman signed with the Marlins after being a September callup for the Angels, while Almora is a seven-year veteran that hasn¡¯t appeared in the big leagues since 2022. The non-roster invitee is a Hialeah, Fla., native.
Who are some of the top prospects invited to Major League camp?
Right-hander Adam Mazur (MLB Pipeline's No. 12 Marlins prospect in 2024); left-handers Robby Snelling (No. 6) and Dax Fulton (No. 28); catchers Agustin Ramirez (No. 4) and Joe Mack (No. 10); infielders Deyvison De Los Santos (No. 5), Jared Serna (No. 11), Javier Sanoja (No. 14), Max Acosta (No. 18) and Jacob Berry (No. 24); outfielders Victor Mesa Jr. (No. 19), Andrew Pintar (No. 21) and Jakob Marsee (No. 22).
Sanoja is the only one of this group to have played at the MLB level with the Marlins, and he could inherit the utility role that Vidal Bruj¨¢n filled in 2024.
Mazur is a name that president of baseball operations Peter Bendix has brought up multiple times during the offseason when discussing starting-pitching depth. The 23-year-old Mazur, who made eight starts for the Padres before coming over in the Tanner Scott/Bryan Hoeing trade, posted a 5.21 ERA in eight starts for Triple-A Jacksonville.
De Los Santos led the Minors in home runs and RBIs last season, but he must exhibit better plate discipline. Ramirez might be blocked behind the dish for now by Nick Fortes and Hicks.
