Today is the day that baseball fans have been waiting for all winter as Diamondbacks pitchers and catchers take to the field for their first official workout of the spring.
Once again, the Diamondbacks expect to compete for a postseason berth after missing out last year by virtue of losing a tiebreaker to the Braves and Mets for the final two NL Wild Card spots.
Here¡¯s what you need to know as Spring Training gets underway:
When is the first workout for pitchers and catchers?
Today, Feb. 12, at Salt River Fields.
What is the date of the first full-squad workout?
Feb. 17.
Where is the team¡¯s facility?
Salt River Fields at Talking Stick is located at 7555 N. Pima Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85258.
Can fans attend workouts?
Beginning on Feb, 12, workouts are open to the public from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. MST.
Fans may park in the Desert Lot on the north side of the complex, which is best accessed via 90th Street off Via de Ventura.
Who are some new faces fans should know?
The Diamondbacks made a big splash -- and shocked the baseball world -- when they signed free-agent right-hander Corbin Burnes to a six-year, $210 million deal. It¡¯s the largest contract in franchise history and helped give Arizona one of the best rotations in MLB.
With Christian Walker departing via free agency, the Diamondbacks filled his spot by acquiring first baseman Josh Naylor in a trade with the Guardians.
Who are some of the top prospects invited to Major League camp?
Shortstop Jordan Lawlar, the team¡¯s top prospect per MLB Pipeline will be in camp, as will third baseman/first baseman Gino Groover (No. 9) and right-hander Cristian Mena (No. 12).
When is the team¡¯s first Cactus League game?
As they do every spring, the Diamondbacks will open with a pair of games against the Rockies, who share the Salt River Fields facility. On Feb. 21, Arizona will be the home team against Colorado, and the Diamondbacks will be the road team against the Rockies the following day.
What are a few other notable spring games?
The Diamondbacks will play a pair of games in Las Vegas against the A¡¯s on March 8 and 9. Arizona plays the Cubs twice -- on the road on Feb. 25 and at home on March 3. The Diamondbacks play the Dodgers just once this spring, on March 10 in Glendale.
What is Spring Breakout and when is the game?
The Diamondbacks will play the Royals' top prospects in a Spring Breakout game March 14 at 5:10 p.m. at Salt River Fields. Fans buying tickets for that afternoon¡¯s game against the Reds at Salt River Fields will also get a ticket for Spring Breakout.
Will the team¡¯s games be televised?
The Diamondbacks will be releasing their broadcast schedule for Spring Training soon.
Will there be any additional exhibitions before the regular season?
Arizona will host Cleveland at Chase Field for two final exhibition games on March 24 at 6:40 p.m. and March 25 at 12:40 p.m.
What are the details for Opening Day?
Season No. 28 for the Diamondbacks will get started on March 27 against the Cubs at Chase Field, with first pitch set for 7:10 p.m.
