ARLINGTON -- Rangers rookie Jack Leiter just dealt the two best starts of his big league career with wins over the Reds Sox at Globe Life Field and against the Reds in Cincinnati.
He¡¯ll have a bit to build off that after landing on the 15-day injured list on Friday due to a blister on his right middle finger.
On Wednesday in Cincinnati, Leiter faced just one over the minimum as he dealt five scoreless innings against the Reds before he was removed from the game at just 70 pitches. Manager Bruce Bochy said at the time that he was removed as a precaution and that he could've kept going, but they didn't want to push it too hard and make it worse.
The blister does need a few more days though, it appears. Bochy said it¡¯s not a huge issue, but they want to nip it in the bud before it requires an even longer stint.
Patrick Corbin will be recalled from Double-A Frisco and make his debut in Leiter¡¯s rotation spot on Monday at Wrigley Field.
Corbin signed with the Rangers during the last week of Spring Training on March 18, but didn¡¯t report to the club¡¯s facility in Surprise, Ariz., because his wife was due to give birth to the couple¡¯s third child any day.
He was optioned to Round Rock to start the season and get built up, but he hadn¡¯t made an appearance for the Express yet. He threw a camp game in Arizona earlier this week.
