A great night at a Minor League Baseball game can instill a strong sense of community, and communities are at their best when they're able to welcome and empower people who have traditionally been sidelined. Baseball, like many sports, can still sometimes be so male-centric as to feel exclusionary, making it important that those of us who love the game make clear our desire to share it with everybody.
Every season, more and more Minor League teams are finding creative ways to show appreciation for women fans and to celebrate women athletes. You can get involved by finding your nearest Minor League teams and checking out their promotions calendar.
Here are just a few noteworthy MiLB promos celebrating girls and women in sports in the 2025 season. All times listed are local.
Harrisburg Senators, Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals
Women in Sports Night -- April 12
vs. Richmond Flying Squirrels (SF), 6 p.m.
The Senators are going all-out with their Women in Sports Night. Fans can buy a specialty combo ticket to the game and the team's Women in Sports Summit and spend all afternoon and evening at the park. Gates at FNB Field open at 2 p.m. for that event, with three panels and networking time on tap. Harrisburg's panelists range from athletes to content creators to front-office personnel across multiple sports, both collegiate and professional. Katie O'Rourke, the senior manager of game presentation for the parent-club Nats, is making the trip from D.C., and representatives from two NFL teams -- the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens -- will also be on hand. A "Women in Sports" T-shirt also comes with the Women in Sports Summit ticket package.
For all fans, the team's pregame "Boardwalk Bash" will feature a DJ spinning hits by beloved female artists, and between-innings entertainment will include panelists playing games related to their respective sports.
Fort Wayne TinCaps, High-A affiliate of the San Diego Padres
Fort Wayne Daises Night -- May 17
vs. West Michigan Whitecaps (DET), 6:25 p.m.
The TinCaps annually pay homage to Fort Wayne's All-American Girls Professional Baseball League team, the Daisies. Former members of the Daisies regularly attend the festivities at Parkville Field, as do other former AAGPBL players. A couple years ago, the team partnered with the City of Fort Wayne to establish a monument to the Daisies at local Memorial Park, and every year the TinCaps reach out to the community to try to find new stories of and connections to the Daisies, with the Minors team on the field playing as the Daisies on the occasion of the promo.
This year, in addition to all the local elements the Fort Wayne faithful has come to expect, the TinCaps have gone Hollywood. Megan Cavanagh, who turned in an unforgettable performance as Marla Hooch in "A League of Their Own," is coming out to the yard. Fans have the opportunity to purchase a premium ticket package that includes a pregame guaranteed meet-and-greet with Cavanagh.
Richmond Flying Squirrels, Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants
Women and Girls in Sports Night -- May 31
vs. Harrisburg Senators (WSH), 6:05 p.m.
The Flying Squirrels' Women and Girls in Sports Night is a hands-on, theory-into-practice kind of promotion, as the club will host girls and women in a softball clinic on the field at The Diamond during the day before first pitch at 6:05 p.m. The event will also feature a panel -- last year's edition featured, among others, Virginia Commonwealth University women's basketball head coach Beth O¡¯Boyle.
Buffalo Bisons, Triple-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays
Women in Sports Night -- Aug. 2
vs. Syracuse Mets (NYM), 6:35 p.m.
The Bisons bring local luminaries to Sahlen Field for their celebrations of women in sports, with last year's event featuring artistic swimming Olympic silver medalist Anita Alvarez, as well as women in leadership roles with the Buffalo Sabres and the Buffalo Bills, among others. This year's participants have not yet been announced, but the Bisons are planning on hosting a panel where fans will have a chance to ask questions, as well as first pitch ceremonies. Throughout the game, the team will share advice from participants on the videoboard.
Albuquerque Isotopes, Triple-A affiliate of the Colorado Rockies
Women in Sports Night -- Sept. 4
vs. Round Rock Express (TEX), 6:35 p.m.
The Isotopes are excited to announce details of this year's Women in Sports Night event in Albuquerque a little later on in the season -- and fans should be excited for that announcement, too. The club has become known for putting together something special for this promotion, usually emphasizing not only the accomplishments of elite female athletes in the college and professional ranks (last year's guests included University of New Mexico alum and pro soccer player Jadyn Edwards) but also the ways that sports and athleticism can be an enriching and joyful part of life for any woman, at any age or degree of competitiveness. The Isotopes' unique focus on that idea really hammers home why these promotion nights matter -- because it's a simple and important message that still gets under-communicated on a societal level.
