FAQ: What to know for O's Spring Training

BALTIMORE -- One of the most exciting times of the year for baseball fans is nearly here.

Spring Training gets underway this upcoming week, as the Orioles will begin preparations for the 2025 season when they report to Sarasota, Fla. Baltimore is hoping to reach the postseason for the third straight year, a feat accomplished only once in franchise history (1969-71).

Let¡¯s dive into everything to know about O¡¯s Spring Training this year.

When is the first workout for pitchers and catchers?
Pitchers and catchers must report by Wednesday, with the first workout scheduled for Thursday.

What is the date of the first full-squad workout?
Feb. 18

Where is the team¡¯s facility?
The Orioles¡¯ facilities are located in Sarasota, Fla., at Ed Smith Stadium, the team¡¯s Spring Training home since 2010.

Can fans attend workouts?
Yes. Workouts on the back fields at Ed Smith Stadium will be open to the public from Thursday through Feb. 21. Practice times haven¡¯t been announced, but they typically occur from approximately 10 a.m.-1 p.m. ET. It is free to attend, with parking available in the East Lot.

Who are some new faces fans should know?
The Orioles added two experienced right-handed arms to their starting rotation. They signed Charlie Morton (a 41-year-old entering his 18th MLB season) to a one-year, $15 million deal, and they brought in Tomoyuki Sugano on a one-year, $13 million contract. Sugano is coming to the U.S. after a stellar 12-year career in Japan.

Baltimore¡¯s biggest acquisition of the offseason was power-hitting outfielder Tyler O¡¯Neill (three years, $49.5 million). It also signed new backup catcher Gary S¨¢nchez (one year, $8.5 million), right-handed reliever Andrew Kittredge (one year, $10 million) and depth outfielders Ram¨®n Laureano (one year, $4 million) and Dylan Carlson (one year, $975,000).

Who are some of the top prospects invited to Major League camp?
Samuel Basallo (MLB Pipeline¡¯s No. 13 overall prospect) was invited to big league camp for the second straight year. The 20-year-old catcher should be more involved this spring after being limited by a stress fracture in his right elbow last season.

Outfielders Enrique Bradfield Jr. (O¡¯s No. 4 prospect), Dylan Beavers (No. 6) and Jud Fabian (No. 10) are non-roster invitees to big league camp for the first time.

When is the team¡¯s first Grapefruit League game?
The O¡¯s open their spring schedule on Feb. 22, when they¡¯ll host the Pirates at Ed Smith Stadium at 1:05 p.m.

What are a few other notable spring games?
Baltimore will play 30 Grapefruit League games. Seven are against Pittsburgh -- three in Sarasota and four in nearby Bradenton. The Orioles will play seven 6:05 p.m. night contests, including three between March 18-21.

What is Spring Breakout, and when is the game?
For the second straight spring, MLB is holding a four-day prospect showcase that will feature baseball¡¯s future stars. A series of 16 exhibition games will be played from March 13-16 between teams comprised of every organization¡¯s top prospects.

The O¡¯s top prospects will play the Yankees¡¯ top prospects on March 15 at 6:05 p.m. at Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota.

Will the team¡¯s games be televised?
MASN has not yet announced which O¡¯s Spring Training games will be televised this year. More details to come.

When is the club¡¯s last game in Florida?
The Orioles wrap up their spring slate with a road matchup vs. the Braves in North Port on March 23.

What are the details for Opening Day?
The Orioles will open the 2025 campaign vs. the Blue Jays on March 27 at Rogers Centre. It¡¯s the first time Baltimore will begin a season in Toronto and only the second time the American League East rivals will meet on Opening Day. (The O¡¯s won, 3-2, in 11 innings at Camden Yards on April 3, 2017.)
