White Sox agree to terms with Michael A. Taylor on one-year contract; place Jesse Scholtens to 60-day injured list
GLENDALE, Ariz. ¨C The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $1.95-million contract with veteran outfielder Michael A. Taylor. To make room for Taylor on the 40-man roster, the White Sox placed right-handed pitcher Jesse Scholtens on the 60-day injured list.
Taylor, 33, is a career .235/.290/.381 (748-3,185) hitter with 136 doubles, 14 triples, 100 home runs, 353 RBI, 394 runs scored and 120 stolen bases in 1,082 games over 11 major-league seasons with Washington (2014-20), Kansas City (2021-22), Minnesota (2023) and Pittsburgh (2024). He spent last season with the Pirates, batting .193/.253/.290 (52-269) with five homers and 21 RBI over 113 games.
Taylor, 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds, leads all major league outfielders with 52 defensive runs saved since 2020, and he won an American League Gold Glove Award with the Royals in 2021. He has 21 career games of postseason experience, batting .275 (14-51) with four homers and 10 RBI. Taylor was a member of WashingtonĄ¯s World Series championship club in 2019.
Scholtens, 30, missed the entire 2024 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March.
