Phillies statement on the passing of Wilmer Reid
The Phillies mourn the loss of Wilmer Reid, who served as a scout for the club in the Philadelphia region for 13 years (2012-24).
After enjoying a playing career that spanned two seasons (1957-58) for the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro Leagues, the West Philadelphia High School graduate began a scouting career in which he also served the Kansas City Royals, Pittsburgh Pirates, New York Yankees and Washington Nationals organizations.
Wilmer¡¯s passion for baseball and scouting were unmatched, and with his years of experience, he was an invaluable member of the Phillies scouting department. As one of the area¡¯s most respected and well-liked scouts, his presence at games and events will be greatly missed.
The Phillies extend their condolences to the Reid family at this difficult time.
