Graduated from Allegany-Limestone HS in Allegany, N.Y. in 2013...Prior to Dubin, the small town of Allegany had produced just one Major Leaguer, a pitcher named Charlie Reynolds, who made two starts for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1882...While in high school, Dubin played soccer and mostly shortstop, pitching fewer than 10.0 innings as a senior...Went undrafted out of high school...Had a long college journey, playing for four different teams over five years...Began at Jamestown Community College, where he was the backup shortstop for the 2013 fall season...After one semester, returned home and took a year-long break from baseball, during which he worked as a contractor at Lowe’s, building decks and installing kitchens and bathrooms...Returned to baseball in 2015 at the request of a friend, Evan Ryan, who was playing at Erie Community College at the time...Ryan sold Dubin’s skills to the coaching staff at Erie, who invited him out to a tryout...After throwing one time in front of coaches, he was offered a spot on the team...He went on to earn Second Team All-League honors while helping his team to a conference title and a NJCAA Regional runner-up finish in 2015...That season, he went 6-2 with a 3.95 ERA and 61 strikeouts in 54.2 innings...Transferred to the Division I level, pitching two years at the University of Buffalo (2016-17) before their baseball program dissolved...Transferred to Georgetown College in 2018, setting a school record with 128 strikeouts, while going 9-1 with a 2.09 ERA in 14 starts...Was named a NAIA First Team All- American, becoming the third player in Georgetown College history to earn the honor...Also was named the 2018 Mid-South Conference Pitcher of the Year after leading the conference in ERA and strikeouts...After his stellar senior year, was selected by Houston in the 13th round of the 2018 MLB Draft...Signed by Astros scout Travis Coleman...Began his pro career in a hybrid starter-reliever role, making 58 starts among his 100 Minor League outings from 2018-23...Has transitioned to a mostly-relief role, making 39 of his 41 appearances between the Majors and Minors in 2024 out of the bullpen...Added to the club’s 40-man roster on Nov. 19, 2021...Is signed to a one-year contract for 2025...Has used all three of his option years entering the 2025 campaign.

2024

Received his most extensive time at the MLB level, going 1-1 with a 4.17 ERA (21 ER/45.1 IP) and 49 strikeouts through a career-high 31 appearances (two starts), while also logging the first two saves of his career...Averaged 10.30 SO/9 IP (45 SO/39.1 IP) through his 29 relief appearances, which ranked third among Astros relievers (min. 35 IP)…Of his 29 relief outings, 10 were multiple innings, including eight outings of 2.0+ innings...Led Astros relievers with five appearances of at least 2.1 IP...Posted a 2.70 ERA (six ER/20 IP) in 15 appearances during the day, compared to a 5.33 ERA (15 ER/25.1IP) in his 16 night appearances...Made two spot starts, coming on June 30 at NYM (3.1 IP, 0 H, 0 R, three BB, two SO) and July 5 at MIN (2.2 IP, five H, three R, three ER, one BB, two SO)…Recorded the first save of his career on May 16 vs. OAK, allowing one run over 3.0 innings with two hits and two strikeout...Picked up the first winning decision of his career on June 21 vs. BAL (2.1 IP, three H, one R, one ER, 0 BB, three SO)…Set his single-game high as a reliever with five strikeouts on June 12 at SF (2.0 IP)…Notched his second career save in his final appearance of the year on Sept. 28 at CLE (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, two SO)…Began the year on the 15-day IL (strained right forearm)…Reinstated to the active roster on April 13...Made four separate stints with the Astros this season...After being reinstated from the IL on April 13, was optioned to Triple-A on May 16; recalled on June 1 and optioned to Triple-A on July 29; recalled on July 30 and optioned to Triple-A on Aug. 24; recalled on Sept. 24 and optioned on Sept. 29...Went 2-0 with a 3.60 ERA (four ER/10 IP) and 13 strikeouts in 10 games with Triple-A Sugar Land.

2023

Made his Major League debut in 2023, appearing in three games (one start) for the Astros...posted a 7.00 ERA (7ER/9IP) but struck out 11 hitters in his nine innings pitched...Opened the season at Triple-A Sugar Land, where he spent the majority of his season...made 20 appearances for the Space Cowboys (12 starts) posting a 6.63 ERA (41ER/55.2IP)…pitched great at Constellation Field, posting a 3.18 ERA (10ER/28.1IP) in nine games (seven starts)…Had one Major League stint, for 15 days, from June 18-July 3...Made his Major League debut on June 19 vs. NYM (5ER/3IP)…entered the game in the seventh inning and struck out four batters through three innings, allowing five runs...picked up his first career strikeout against Brandon Nimmo, who was the first batter he faced...Made his only career start on July 2 at TEX (1ER/4IP)…left that game trailing 1-0 in the Astros 5-3 win...Was with the Astros on the club’s Taxi Squad throughout the Postseason.

2022

Pitched his second consecutive season at the Triple A level in 2022...including a two-game rehab stint with the GCL Astros, combined to go 3-5 with a 4.62 ERA (31ER/60.1IP) in 25 games, including 14 starts... struck out 82 in 60.1 innings...named the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week for Sept. 5-11 (0ER/8IP)...posted a 12.34 strikeouts per 9.0 ratio at Triple A, which led the PCL (min. 55 IP).

2021

Spent his entire 2021 season at Triple A, going 4-3 with a save and a 3.44 ERA (19ER/49.2IP) in 16 games (eight starts) for Triple A Sugar Land...struck out 69 hitters in 49.2 innings and allowed just a .201 opponent batting average.

2020

Did not appear in a regular season game in 2020 during the pandemic-shortened season...traveled with the Astros during the 2020 postseason as part of the club's taxi squad.

2019

Posted a combined 7-5 record with a 3.58 ERA (44ER/110.2IP) and 151 strikeouts between Class A Advanced Fayetteville (22g) and Class A Quad Cities (3g) in 2019...Led the Carolina League with 132 strikeouts in 2019...reached this total despite throwing just 98.2 innings pitched at the level...Was named Midwest League Pitcher of the Week on April 21, 2019, and Carolina League Pitcher of the Week on Sept. 2, 2019.
