Miami Marlins announce 2025 affiliate coaching staffs
MIAMI ¨C The Miami Marlins today announced the Managers and coaching staffs for the clubĄ¯s full season Minor League affiliates for the 2025 season.
Triple-A Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp: David Carpenter
Double-A Pensacola Blue Wahoos: Nelson Prada
High-A Beloit Sky Carp: Angel Espada
Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads: Nick Weisheipl
Carpenter joins the organization as Manager of the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. The Morgantown, W.Va. native spent the last two seasons as Manager of the West Viriginia Black Bears in the MLB Draft League (2023-24), while also serving as Pitching Coach at Division II Fairmont State University from 2021-24. The former pitcher was originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 12th round of the 2006 First-Year Player Draft, going on to pitch in 222 Major League games across parts of six seasons with the Houston Astros (2011-12), Toronto Blue Jays (2012), Atlanta Braves (2013-14), New York Yankees (2015), Washington Nationals (2015), and Texas Rangers (2019).
Prada becomes the Blue Wahoos Manager after serving the 2023-24 seasons as Manager with Single-A Jupiter. In 2023, Prada guided the Hammerheads to the Florida State League championship, where his club took home its first crown after going 35-31 in both the first and second halves of the season. Prada had previously spent the 2021-22 seasons as the DSL Marlins Manager. Before joining the Marlins organization, he spent eight years with the Philadelphia Phillies organization and 17 seasons with the Minnesota Twins organization, including five as a player and 12 as a coach. Outside of affiliated baseball, he has served as Manager of the Spain National team for the last five years, taking them to the 2023 European Championship.
Espada enters his 17th season with the Marlins organization, becoming Manager for High-A Beloit after spending the prior campaign as the Sky CarpĄ¯s Defensive Coach. The Salinas, Puerto Rico native, whose coaching tenure with the Marlins began in 2009, has previously served in various roles across the player development system, including as Manager with the 2012 Jamestown Jammers (NYPL), the 2013-16 Batavia Muckdogs (NYPL), the 2019 Dominican Summer League Marlins, and the 2022 Single-A Jupiter Hammerheads (FSL).
Weisheipl returns for a second season with the Marlins organization, his first as manager of Single-A Jupiter. He spent the 2024 season as a Development Coach with the DSL Marlins, following a 21-year coaching career at the collegiate level. Most recently, he served as Head Coach at Cabrini University from 2015-24, where he started the program and led the Cavaliers to the postseason in the programĄ¯s second-ever season. He also has notable coaching experience at Villanova University and West Chester University along with stints with the Eau Claire Express and La Crosse Loggers of the Northwoods League. He began his career at Clarke College with additional stops at Wisconsin-Stout and Notre Dame College.
