Phillies announce two additional Spring Training non-roster invitees
The Phillies have invited two additional players to attend major league spring training as non-roster invitees.
Christian Arroyo, INF ¨C The 29-year-old Arroyo was limited to 37 games (.222, 30-135) in the Milwaukee BrewersĄŻ minor league system last season. A native of Tampa, Fla., Arroyo has spent parts of seven seasons with the San Francisco Giants (2017), Tampa Bay Rays (2018-19), Cleveland Indians (2020) and Boston Red Sox (2020-23). The right-handed hitter slashed .252/.299/.394 with 54 doubles, two triples, 24 home runs, 120 RBI, 51 walks and 106 runs scored over 295 major league games. Defensively, he has committed just three errors in 680 total chances at second base. His .995 fielding percentage at the position from 2020-23 led all major league second basemen in that span (min. 150 G). Arroyo was originally selected by the Giants in the first round (25th overall) of the 2013 MLB Draft.
?scar Mercado, OF ¨C Mercado, 30, spent the 2024 season playing at the triple-A level in the San Diego Padres and Detroit Tigers organizations, slashing .222/.308/.405 (.713 OPS) with 11 doubles, five triples, 12 home runs, 50 RBI and 16 stolen bases in 93 games. The right-handed hitter has a career slash line of .237/.289/.388 (.677 OPS) in 298 major league games with Cleveland (2019-22), the Phillies (2022) and St. Louis Cardinals (2023). A native of Cartagena, Colombia, he represented Colombia at the World Baseball Classic in 2017 and 2023. Mercado was originally selected by the Cardinals in the second round of the 2013 MLB Draft.
