New Phillies call-up Ben Lively once told his fifth-grade teacher he wanted to be a Major Leaguer
When Ben Lively was in grade school, he was asked to answer a handful of questions the last of which read, "When I grow up, I want to ... ". His answer was simple: "Be a pro baseball player."
Now, more than a decade later, the righty is set to make that dream come true: With Pat Neshek on paternity leave, the Phillies called Lively up prior to their game Wednesday night against the Mets.
It's an achievement years in the making: After being drafted by the Reds back in 2013, Lively spent the past four years pitching his way through every level of the Minors, posting a 2.69 ERA between Double-A and Triple-A in 2016. It's just one of many great stories on the Philly roster this season.
