Brett Eibner and the agony of coming oh-so-close to robbing a Jose Abreu homer

Baseball isn't easy. Hitting, pitching, fielding, everything requires the utmost concentration, focus, and, well, physical ability. 
Those moments of absolute upper-echelon accomplishment, then, are even more difficult to pull off, as A's outfielder Brett Eibner found out in Saturday night's game with the White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
In the first inning, José Abreu went with an outside pitch from Ross Detwiler and lasered a line drive toward the right-field wall. Tracking the ball well, Eibner made a perfectly-timed leap hoping to rob the homer, and ... very nearly came down with it: 

That's about as close you can get to stealing a home run without actually doing it. It was also a pretty great effort from Eibner, but in the end -- as always -- it serves as yet another reminder that baseball can be cruel sometimes.
