Before the UMBC Retrievers busted everybody's bracket, their mascot hung out with the Oriole Bird
Like millions of people across the country, you probably became acquainted with the UMBC Retrievers on Friday night -- as the school (the University of Maryland, Baltimore County) became the first No. 16 seed to ever defeat a No. 1 in the NCAA Tournament, taking down the Virginia Cavaliers.
It was wild. It was supremely unexpected. It probably introduced you to a school and team you didn't know about before ... but for the Oriole Bird, it's just a great accomplishment from an old friend:
Congrats, UMBC -- and the three former Major Leaguers to come from the school: Wayne Franklin, Jay Witasick and Rick Steirer.
And as for those Virginia alumni out there, like Nats reliever Sean Doolittle, well ... humor helps.
