Sometimes, a batter will call time in the middle of a pitcher's windup and the umpire will grant it. It's a difficult adjustment for pitchers -- who are already on their way to home plate. They might throw the ball straight into the ground or they might just continue forward with the pitch they were orginally going to throw.
But when this happened to José Fernández -- one of the fun-nest funtime players in the league -- during the second inning of Thursday's Cardinals-Marlins game, he saw it as a grand opportunity to deliver a souvenir to the fans behind home plate:
