Yasiel Puig licked his bat, didn't like the taste, then used it to crack a big RBI double anyway
In the first inning of the Dodgers' 9-5 win on Friday night over the D-backs in Game 1 of the NLDS presented by T-Mobile, the Dodgers shot out to a quick 4-0 lead on the D-backs. Mostly, this offensive onslaught was provided by Justin Turner's three-run homer.
But the rally continued past that, as Cody Bellinger singled, bringing up Yasiel Puig. Puig promptly had a rather epic at-bat against Taijuan Walker, fouling off a number of pitches in the process. Extended at-bats provide the hitter with extra opportunities to do things to pass the time between pitches. For Puig, this meant licking his bat ... because why not?
However, he didn't seem to like the taste much:
After his bat-licking experiment, Puig washed the bad taste out of his mouth by hitting an RBI double into the right-center-field gap, scoring Bellinger and plating the Dodgers' fourth run of the frame.
The bat itself might not have tasted good, but the double probably did.
Watch the Dodgers take on the D-backs in Game 2 of the NLDS presented by T-Mobile Saturday at 9 p.m. ET./ 6 p.m. PT on TBS.
