Chase Utley and Mookie Wilson take London cabs to a holiday pub quiz with fans

While the holiday pub quiz is a tradition in England, suffice to say, Shakespeare's Head in London probably never saw one like this. That's because Phillies great Chase Utley and Mets legend Mookie Wilson recently took part in a special baseball-themed quiz ahead of this summer's London Series. (Yup, you guessed it: Between the Phillies and Mets.)
The two got in London's iconic black cabs where they each met a fan, who would later join their trivia team at the pub. After talking baseball and sightseeing through London, they finally arrived at the pub, which was decked out in Christmas lights, hot dog ornaments, and special Shakespeare-inspired baseball art pieces on the wall.
"It's just great sharing baseball with people you never thought you'd ever meet," Wilson said afterward. "It was one of the most amazing nights I've ever had."
Once there, it was time for the contest -- hosted by comedian Phill Jupitus -- with six different teams from across England's baseball community coming to participate. That included Mets and Phillies UK fan groups, members of the National Baseball League champion London Mets, and writers and analysts from the British baseball website Bat Flips and Nerds, who faced off for the title of country's best baseball know-it-alls.
Since the goal of the evening was to share some warmth and camaraderie across baseball fan groups, it didn't really matter who finished first. Unless, of course, you were playing with the MLB UK Community -- in which case not only did you win, but you picked up some sweet tickets to this summer's games.
"My very first pub quiz," Utley said. "We didn't come in first place -- I'm not going to tell you what place we came in -- but we had a good time, we worked together as a team, we bonded. Overall, fantastic evening."
