Bombers in pajamas! Jeter, Posada make Christmas cozy
What do Yankees greats do for the holidays? It turns out they spend time together ... in their finest pairs of pajamas!
Hall of Fame shortstop Derek Jeter posted a pair of heartwarming images with longtime Yankees teammate and friend Jorge Posada to his social media accounts on Christmas Eve. Both appeared to be wearing inflatable reindeer ears and some festive nightwear, with Jeter opting for a simple plaid pattern and Posada's reading, "What the Elf?"
The other two members of the Core Four weren't in attendance, best we can tell -- Mariano Rivera's accounts offered no insight, while Andy Pettitte appeared to spend the holidays elsewhere with his own family (see below) -- but Jeter and Posada in particular have always had a strong bond.
Jeter and Posada were teammates on various levels for 20 years, winning four World Series championships together. They were close basically from the beginning, as Jeter served as Posada's best man at his wedding way back in the year 2000.
Jeter and Posada also shared some fun traditions over the years, as detailed in The Captain's 2014 book, Jeter Unfiltered:
¡°I used to always look for Jorge Posada first when I showed up for Spring Training because he was my closest friend on the team. He and I had a Spring Training tradition: On the last day we would order a bunch of Hooters chicken wings, then we¡¯d drive to Baskin-Robbins and get ice cream. Not exactly what a nutritionist would advise, but we weren¡¯t telling.¡±
Hopefully their palate has grown more refined over the years, though the two Yankees' friendship has only grown tighter. Their families vacation together, and Jeter revealed a couple years ago that Posada not only shares a birthday with Jeter's first-born daughter, Bella, he was named her godfather.
Things seem to change so quickly in life, that it's worth celebrating the ones that are the same as they always were. As we celebrate the holiday season, here's to many more years of The Captain's daughters driving Uncle Jorge nuts.
