10 former Dodgers make '20 Hall of Fame ballot

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers have 10 former players on the 2020 Hall of Fame ballot, although none played the majority of his career for the franchise.

The most likely of the group to garner support from voters are Rafael Furcal, who played six seasons for the Dodgers and was an All-Star in 2010, and Bobby Abreu, who played 92 games in Dodger blue at age 38 in '12. Abreu and Furcal are among six former Dodgers on the ballot for the first time.

There are four former Dodgers making a repeat appearance on the ballot -- Manny Ramirez, Jeff Kent, Gary Sheffield and Andruw Jones. Ramirez had dramatic impact, both good and bad, while with the Dodgers, but he received only 22.8 percent of votes last year, and that’s the highest percentage of the four.

In addition to Furcal and Abreu, former Dodgers on the ballot for the first time are Josh Beckett, Paul Konerko, Brad Penny and Chone Figgins.

Beckett threw a no-hitter while with the Dodgers, three months before suffering a hip injury that forced his retirement in 2014. Penny, a teammate of Beckett’s when they won the 2003 World Series for the Marlins, was a National League All-Star in two of his five Dodgers season, and he was a starter in '06. Furcal, who won the NL Rookie of the Year Award in 2000 for the Braves, solidified the Dodgers at shortstop for more than five seasons.

Abreu tallied 2,470 hits and stole 400 bases over 18 seasons with the Phillies, Yankees, Angels, Dodgers, Astros and Mets. Konerko played only two seasons with the Dodgers before being traded to the White Sox. He won a World Series with Chicago in 2005, when he also won the American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player Award. Figgins played only 38 games for the Dodgers before retiring.

Candidates must be named on 75 percent of ballots cast by selected BBWAA members with 10 or more consecutive years of MLB coverage to gain election.
