SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants are hitting a new note with their City Connect jerseys this year, unveiling a ¡°remixed¡± look inspired by San Francisco¡¯s rich musical history on Tuesday.
The new uniforms feature black tops with white sound waves and orange and purple gradients on their jersey sleeves, chest script and the bill of their caps. The purple is meant to evoke the Fillmore¡¯s stage lights and Haight-Ashbury¡¯s posters, though it also pays tribute to the franchise¡¯s New York origins from when the Giants briefly wore violet from 1913-17 as a nod to New York University.
¡°I don¡¯t mind it,¡± Giants right-hander Jordan Hicks said of the purple. ¡°I just put on whatever they give us. It¡¯s nice, though, overall.¡±
The City Connect jerseys also include a glove patch on the sleeve, which is inspired by warped 1960s gig posters and ¡°embodies San Francisco¡¯s movement, creativity and rebellious spirit.¡± The Giants¡¯ chest script is similarly influenced by psychedelic posters and is meant to flow like the rhythm and energy of the city.
¡°With our new City Connect uniform, we¡¯re pushing creative boundaries and remixing how the Giants reflect the spirit of our city,¡± Giants chief marketing officer Rachel Heit said in a statement. ¡°This launch goes beyond a jersey -- it¡¯s a cultural statement. We¡¯re thrilled to collaborate with Nike and San Francisco¡¯s vibrant music scene to create something that honors our legacy, celebrates our culture and connects with our fans in a bold new way.¡±
The Giants debuted their new jerseys Tuesday night during their 1-0 loss to the Reds at Oracle Park. They¡¯ll continue to wear the uniforms during Tuesday home games and on their City Connect concert games, which will include performances by county music artist Nate Smith on June 21 and Bay Area-rapper Saweetie on Aug. 16.

The Giants went 30-16 while wearing their previous City Connect jerseys, which were white and orange and featured a silhouette of the Golden Gate Bridge on the sleeves, so they hope their new look will be a hit as well.
¡°I like them,¡± manager Bob Melvin said. ¡°They¡¯re very colorful. I just liked a little bit more of the contrasting colors compared to maybe the last ones. In San Diego, I had some interesting ones, too. I do like them. There¡¯s a little Grateful Dead involved. I think everybody appreciates that.¡±
