LAS VEGAS -- Ten minutes before the second iteration of the All-MLB Team Awards show presented by MGM Rewards opened at the Chelsea Theater, the crowd of current and former players and their guests were told to take their seats.
There would be a musical performance to open the show, though MLB Network¡¯s Greg Amsinger -- one of the event¡¯s hosts -- wouldn¡¯t say who would be taking the stage. The only hints the audience had to go off were that the performer was a current big leaguer ¡ and there were OMG signs laid out on every table.
Well that narrowed it down.
Once again performing his hit single "OMG," Jose Iglesias emerged from the second level of seating behind a covering of white angel wings held by four dancers in Vegas-approved gold sequined dresses.
Iglesias wore bright pink pants and a fringed leather jacket, which he tested in his dressing room to make sure it could accommodate his dancing.
Iglesias performed "OMG" for his Mets teammates and the fans at Citi Field in a postgame concert after a late June win over the Astros. The song became a rallying cry for the Mets down the stretch and throughout their postseason run to the NLCS, and it even got international attention with a Pitbull remix dropping in October.
Before the show, Iglesias left some parting words for Mookie Betts as the World Series champion walked out of the room toward the theater, ¡°I¡¯m gonna get you to dance!¡± Iglesias called out.
After working his way through the crowd -- past a smiling Betts nodding along in his seat -- Iglesias finished his performance to thunderous applause, acknowledging his fellow big leaguers¡¯ accomplishments before they received their awards.
¡°Thank you everyone, and congratulations. I love you!¡±
