Dylan Crews added yet another accolade to his already impressive r¨¦sum¨¦ on Sunday, winning the Golden Spikes Award.
The honor, which is given to the best player in amateur ball in the nation each year, joins Crews¡¯ 2021 National Freshman of the Year award and SEC player of the year nods in both 2022 and 2023, as yet another achievement in his decorated college career.
The No. 1 Draft prospect per MLB Pipeline has been dominant in every facet of the game this season for LSU. At the plate, he is slashing a downright silly .418/.562/.707, with 18 homers and six stolen bases. It should also be no surprise, considering his numbers, that Crews has walked a whopping 70 times compared to just 46 strikeouts.
The 70 free passes are the second most in all of NCAA Division I baseball this season. The Tigers outfielder also ranks second in OBP and Top 10 in batting average, hits (104) and runs (95).
With a 6-foot, 205-pound frame, Crews not only has power, but also speed. His 60-grade run tool, paired with 50-grade arm and fielding tools, have led scouts to believe he will stay in center field as a big leaguer.
In his other two seasons at LSU, Crews produced at a similar clip. As a freshman, he slashed .362/.453/.663 while clubbing 18 long balls and he followed that up with 22 jacks and a .349/.463/.691 slash line as a sophomore. With the offensive consistency that Crews displayed in his three collegiate seasons, it should be no surprise that he has a 70-grade hit tool, the highest in the draft.
While it¡¯s currently up in the air whether the Buccos will take Crews first overall to be their future center fielder or draft his LSU teammate, right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes ¨C the No. 2 Draft prospect ¨C one thing is for sure; in his three years down in the bayou, Crews has shown he has the tools to be a star.
