Mets open 2020 season July 24 vs. Braves

NEW YORK -- The Mets have spent much of this week glowing about Jacob deGrom’s early form in Summer Camp. Now they know exactly when he’ll take the mound for real.

Major League Baseball on Monday released its league-wide schedule for the shortened 2020 season that will begin July 23. The Mets will open the following afternoon, July 24 against the Braves at Citi Field at 4:10 p.m. ET, kicking off a 60-game season that includes 40 divisional games and six against the Yankees.

Following their initial three-game series with the Braves, the Mets will travel to Fenway Park for two against the Red Sox, before returning home to host Boston for two. Next, deGrom and friends will weave their way through the National League East: four in Atlanta, two in Washington, three at home against the Marlins, four at home versus the Nationals, then three in Philadelphia and four in Miami.

The first Subway Series will take place at Citi Field from Aug. 21-23, leading the Mets into the season’s midway point. They will then host the Marlins for three games, before traveling over the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge for three at Yankee Stadium from Aug. 28-30.

The closing portion of the Mets’ schedule may be the most difficult. Following a stretch against the Orioles, Phillies, Orioles and Blue Jays, the Mets will end their season with three in Philadelphia, three at home against the Braves, three more at home versus the Rays, and finally four in Washington in a series that could well decide the division.

A full broadcast schedule will be released in the coming weeks, according to the Mets.
