Here's the Mets' Spring Breakout roster
PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- Last year during Spring Breakout, many fans took their first looks at Brandon Sproat, a promising young pitcher who¡¯s now the organization¡¯s top overall prospect; Ryan Clifford, a power-hitting outfielder relatively new to the system; and Nolan McLean, a two-way collegiate player who was only just beginning his journey as a full-time pitcher.
This year, the Mets will again send many of their top prospects to a Spring Breakout game. Here are all the details:
What is Spring Breakout?
MLB Spring Breakout is a four-day event showcasing baseball¡¯s future: the current stars of Minor League Baseball. The second edition will be held from March 13-16 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training. Sixteen exhibition games will be played between teams comprised of each MLB organization¡¯s top prospects, creating a new touchpoint on the baseball calendar that celebrates the sport¡¯s budding talent.
When is the Mets¡¯ game?
The Mets will face the Nationals at CACTI Park of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Fla., at 5:05 p.m. ET on March 16.

Which position players are expected to play?
Each of the Mets¡¯ top three position-player prospects, Jett Williams, Carson Benge and Clifford, are on the Spring Breakout roster. They¡¯re ranked second, third and fourth, respectively, in the farm system. Williams and Benge were first-round Draft picks in 2022 and 2024, while Clifford was part of the return from the Justin Verlander trade in 2023.
Beyond those three, some notable 2024 Draft picks are also expected to take part in the game, including fifth-rounder Trey Snyder (No. 17 Mets prospect) and fourth-rounder Eli Serrano III (No. 23). These are the types of players who could shoot up prospect lists with good 2024 campaigns.

Which pitching prospects are expected to play?
Although Sproat won¡¯t appear in this year¡¯s event, Jonah Tong will. He was a breakout pitcher last season, going from unranked in the Mets¡¯ system to No. 6 overall right now.
Other Spring Breakout pitchers of note include Jonathan Santucci (No. 13), the Mets¡¯ second-round pick in last year¡¯s Draft, and the unranked Ryan Lambert, an eighth-round reliever who features a triple-digit fastball and could fly through the system if all goes well.
Why are certain top prospects not listed on the roster?
While teams try to send as many top prospects as possible to Spring Breakout, the final roster is ultimately up to a team¡¯s player development staff. For pitchers, it also depends on individual throwing programs and schedules.
This year, injuries are preventing several Mets position players from taking part. Tenth-ranked prospect Ronny Mauricio hasn¡¯t appeared in games of any sort this spring as he takes his final steps toward returning from multiple knee surgeries. Eleventh-ranked Drew Gilbert, likewise, is a slow progression after missing most of last season due to a hamstring strain.
Then there is seventh-ranked Luisangel Acu?a, who¡¯s on the roster bubble in big-league camp. Rather than take part in Spring Breakout, he¡¯s fighting for an Opening Day job.
