GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Dodgers right-hander Michael Grove underwent right shoulder labrum surgery and is expected to miss the entire 2025 season, manager Dave Roberts said on Sunday.
The team had already expected Grove not to be ready in time for Opening Day. Grove was participating in baseball activities earlier in spring and threw at least one bullpen session, but he was shut down from throwing in late February. Last year, he was removed from the NL Division Series roster because of a lingering injury to his throwing shoulder.
"He's disappointed. ¡ He tried to tough it out and pitch through it," Roberts said of Grove, who was wearing a sling on his right arm in the clubhouse on Sunday morning. "But it was just compromising his performance and recovery. So I think he's obviously disappointed, given he was ready to kind of compete for a job this year."
Grove appeared in 39 games (two starts) for Los Angeles last season and posted a 5.12 ERA across 51 innings. The Dodgers' bullpen depth grows thinner with Grove out for the year, as Evan Phillips, Michael Kopech and Edgardo Henriquez are all slated to start the season on the injured list. Brusdar Graterol, who had right shoulder labrum surgery last November, is expected to miss at least the first half of the season.
