Many of us remember -- or at least are familiar with -- some of the greatest games in baseball history. Whether it¡¯s Carlton Fisk¡¯s walk-off home run in Game 6 of the 1975 World Series, Kirk Gibson¡¯s walk-off shot in Game 1 of the 1988 Fall Classic or Cal Ripken Jr. breaking Lou Gehrig¡¯s consecutive games record in 1995, these types of iconic moments are woven throughout the tapestry of baseball lore in a way that makes them indelible.
But there are other great games that, while not quite as iconic as the ones mentioned above, are special in their own right. Sometimes they become overshadowed, but they are nonetheless memorable in their own way.
That¡¯s why MLB is reaching into its vast library of archived video to present ¡°Hidden Classics,¡± games that make you go, ¡°Oh, that¡¯s right!¡± when you see them again after they may have gotten lost in the shuffle over the years.
The debut episode of ¡°Hidden Classics¡± will feature a look back at the final Mariners game played at the Kingdome on June 27, 1999. Be sure to watch this condensed game to relive a historic and emotional farewell to the venue the Mariners called home for 22 years before moving into Safeco Field, now T-Mobile Park.
¡°Hidden Classics¡± will also feature fascinating factoids about the players and teams involved that are sprinkled in throughout the episodes. Check out the debut episode and keep an eye out for more on MLB.com and MLB¡¯s YouTube channel.
