On Saturday, March 16, the Tigers will host the Phillies in Spring Breakout, a first of its kind exhibition featuring the top prospects in each farm system. Here¡¯s everything to know about that game and this exciting new event.
What is Spring Breakout?
MLB Spring Breakout is a four-day event showcasing baseball¡¯s future: the current stars of Minor League Baseball. The inaugural edition will be held from March 14-17 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training. A series of 16 exhibition games will be played between teams comprised of each MLB organization¡¯s top prospects, creating a new touchpoint on the baseball calendar that celebrates our sport¡¯s budding talent.
What time is the Phillies-Tigers game?
The Spring Breakout game starts at 1:05 p.m. ET at Joker Marchant Stadium. The Tigers¡¯ Major League team visits the Pirates later that day in a 4:05 p.m. ET game. The Phillies will also visit the Marlins in a Grapefruit League game that starts at 1:10 p.m. ET.

PHILLIES
No. 3 prospect Aidan Miller is scheduled to take part, as is No. 4 prospect Justin Crawford, No. 5 prospect Starlyn Caba, No. 7 prospect Devin Saltiban, No. 8 prospect Bryan Rincon, No. 9 prospect Eduardo Tait and No. 10 prospect Gabriel Rincones. Top prospect Max Clark, Detroit¡¯s top Draft pick last year and MLB Pipeline¡¯s No. 13 overall prospect, is scheduled to take part, as is Tigers No. 4 prospect Jace Jung, No. 7 prospect Kevin McGonigle, No. 13 prospect Justice Bigbie, No. 14 prospect Dillon Dingler and No. 15 prospect Hao-Yu Lee. Which pitching prospects are expected to play?
PHILLIES
No. 2 prospect Mick Abel, who racked up 132 strikeouts last year between Double-A and Triple-A and ranks 49th on MLB Pipeline¡¯s Top 100, is taking part. Hard-throwing right-hander Griff McGarry, the Phillies¡¯ No. 11 prospect, is also on the list.

No. 5 prospect Ty Madden, who tossed 3 2/3 scoreless innings with five strikeouts in Major League camp this spring, is the highest-ranked pitcher taking part on Detroit¡¯s side. No. 10 prospect Wilmer Flores, who has hit 99 mph several times in Major League outings this spring, is also on the roster, as is No. 12 prospect Troy Melton. Keep an eye on RJ Petit, an unranked relief prospect who stands 6-foot-8 and weighs 300 pounds and who pitched in the Arizona Fall League last year.

Why are certain top prospects not listed on the rosters?
Phillies top prospect Andrew Painter will miss the 2024 season rehabbing from ulnar nerve transposition surgery. No. 6 prospect Orion Kerkering is in Major League camp competing for a roster spot.
Tigers top pitching prospect Jackson Jobe is not taking part because he¡¯s scheduled to pitch for the Tigers in a Grapefruit League game against the Twins on March 12, just four days before the event. No. 2 prospect Colt Keith is in Major League camp competing for an Opening Day roster spot, and No. 9 prospect Keider Montero is in Major League camp and is scheduled to pitch on March 15.
