Pirates recall Schugel, option Diaz

CHICAGO -- The Pirates recalled right-hander A.J. Schugel from Triple-A Indianapolis on Friday ahead of the three-game series against the Cubs. In a corresponding move, the team optioned catcher Elias Díaz to Indianapolis.
Schugel, who has yet to make an appearance in the Majors this season, pitched 52 innings for Pittsburgh last year, going 2-2 with a 3.63 ERA. Through 26 Triple-A relief outings in 2017, he's posted a 4.17 ERA, and batters have hit .268 against him.

Diaz last played Thursday against the Phillies, going 1-for-4 with a double in a 6-3 win. Among his various season highlights were a six-RBI game on June 2 against the Mets, as well as the first three-hit game of his career on June 10 against the Marlins.
