Hard-throwing Reds prospect Chase Burns is one step closer to the big leagues.
Burns, 22, Cincinnati's first-round Draft pick last season and the team's current No. 1 prospect, is being promoted to Double-A Chattanooga. He is scheduled to make his first start on Saturday, sources tell MLB.com. The team has not confirmed the promotion.
The righty has gone 0-2 with a 3.09 ERA in three starts this season for High-A Dayton. He's fanned 20 batters in 11 2/3 innings and has a 0.86 WHIP.
The Wake Forest product has a fastball that sits in the upper 90s and occasionally touches triple digits. He also boasts an elite slider, a strong curve and a solid changeup.
His high strikeout numbers so far in 2025 continue a trend established during his college career, when he routinely posted double-digit strikeout games for the Demon Deacons on his way to setting the school's single-season record with 191 strikeouts in 2024.
Burns at times struggled with his control in college, but has walked just five total batters in his three starts this season in High-A.
