Schebler's 3 hits spark Reds' win over Crew

PHOENIX -- A trio of errors charged to Brewers second baseman Colin Walsh on the same day he learned he'd made Milwaukee's Opening Day roster contributed to four unearned runs for the Reds in Cincinnati's 9-2 win on Tuesday at Maryvale Baseball Park.
Reds roster hopeful Scott Schebler had three hits, including an RBI single in Cincinnati's three-run rally in the fourth inning, when Walsh made two of his fielding errors. Adam Duvall and Jordan Pacheco also produced RBI singles in that frame off Brewers Opening Day starter Wily Peralta, who pitched four innings in his final tune-up for the regular season.
"It can happen any day," Brewers manager Craig Counsell said of Walsh. "I made three errors on this field, so it can happen. It's a bad day. You don't want it to happen. Let's just chalk it up to a bad day."

Peralta was charged with three unearned runs on six hits in four innings, with a walk and three strikeouts.
In the fifth against Brewers reliever Jeremy Jeffress, Ivan De Jesus doubled and scored on Jay Bruce's grounder through Walsh's legs for his third error.
Minor Leaguer A.J. Morris started for the Reds and pitched 3 1/3 scoreless innings, working around three walks with four strikeouts. Reds pitchers kept the Brewers off the scoreboard until the seventh, when Caleb Cotham surrendered two runs (one earned) on three hits. The unearned run scored on Cotham's errant pickoff throw.

Yadiel Rivera, who was informed earlier in the day along with Walsh that he had won a spot on the Brewers' bench, delivered an RBI single.

Duvall connected on his fourth spring homer -- a three-run shot to straightaway center over the batter's eye -- in the ninth. Pacheco added a solo blast two hitters later.

"I love seeing that," Reds manager Bryan Price said of the production. "They're pros about how they're going about this. There is pressure that goes with this. Those guys want to make the club. I think they've handled it beautifully. All three of those guys are in strong consideration to make the club."

Up next for the Reds: The Reds host the White Sox at 4:05 p.m. ET and can be watched live on MLB.TV. Joey Votto and Brandon Phillips will be in the lineup, along with Billy Hamilton and Zack Cozart. Josh Smith will come over from Minor League camp to serve as the starting pitcher, while Opening Day starter Raisel Iglesias works in a Minor League game.
