Major League Baseball¡¯s greatest ongoing mystery has finally been resolved: Shohei Ohtani has finally told us his dog¡¯s name.
Ohtani had declined to reveal the pup¡¯s name after the canine appeared alongside him as he accepted his 2023 American League MVP Award last month, drawing speculation that it was also that of one of the clubs Ohtani was considering in free agency.
We had our fun, but the offseason¡¯s most adorable subplot has reached its conclusion, as the Dodgers¡¯ new $700 million man has revealed that his dog¡¯s name is Dekopin, which means flicking someone's forehead in Japanese.
But you can call him Decoy.
"I figured it would be hard for American people to pronounce it," Ohtani said through his translator, Ippei Mizuhara.
No word yet on what sort of contract Decoy should expect to receive on the free agent market -- but at least for the time being, there's still but one Dodger in the Ohtani household.
