Pirates sign No. 4 overall pick Termarr Johnson

The Pirates on Friday signed shortstop Termarr Johnson, the club¡¯s first-round selection (No. 4 overall) from the 2022 Draft. The deal is worth $7,219,000, a source told MLB.com's Justice delos Santos -- a total slightly higher than the slot value for the fourth overall pick in this year's Draft ($7,005,800). The club did not confirm the value of the contract.

The 18-year-old Johnson was named the Atlanta Public Schools Player of the Year as a senior this past season after hitting .561 (23-for-41) with nine doubles, one triple, six home runs, 19 RBIs, 27 walks and 14 stolen bases at Mays (Ga.) High School.
Johnson was rated the No. 4 prospect in the Draft and the ¡°Best Hitter¡± in this year¡¯s Draft class by MLB Pipeline.
The Pirates planned to intoduce Johnson at a 6 p.m. ET press conference Friday in the PNC Park Press Conference Room. Prior to that, he was set to be on the field to take batting practice.
Johnson, who will begin his professional career in the Florida Complex League, was signed by Pirates scout Cam Murphy.
The Pirates have now signed 18 of their 21 selections from this year¡¯s Draft, which includes each of their first 12 picks.
