Rickey Henderson, MLB¡¯s greatest leadoff hitter, passed away last week just a few days shy of Christmas, which also would have been his 66th birthday.
In honor of Henderson¡¯s birthday, you can watch eight classic games in full related to his legendary career on MLB.TV and the MLB Vault YouTube channel on Wednesday. There will also be a special episode of the MLB Morning Lineup podcast dedicated to the Man of Steal.
Here are the games that will be shown:
? Oct. 4, 1989: Henderson steals four bases during the A¡¯s Game 2 victory over the Blue Jays as part of his MVP effort in the 1989 ALCS.
? Oct. 28, 1989: Henderson belts a leadoff homer as part of a three-hit night in Game 4 of the ¡®89 World Series to help the A¡¯s sweep the Giants.
? June 29, 1990: This game is most remembered in A¡¯s history for Dave Stewart¡¯s no-hitter in Toronto, but Henderson backed his pitcher on this momentous day with three RBIs, including a two-run home run.
? Oct. 10, 1990: The A¡¯s clinch their third consecutive pennant with a 1990 ALCS Game 4 victory over Roger Clemens and the Red Sox.
? Oct. 17, 1990: The A¡¯s and Reds battle into extra innings in Game 2 of the '90 World Series.
? May 1, 1991: ¡°I¡¯m the greatest of all time.¡± Rickey swipes his 939th career stolen base, passing Lou Brock for the MLB record, with an iconic speech to match.
? June 23, 1994: A¡¯s right-hander Bobby Witt pitches a near-perfect game against David Cone and the Royals.
? Oct. 19, 1999. Henderson picks up a couple of hits and a stolen base for the Mets in a thrilling NLCS Game 6 versus the Braves.
