GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Taking a look at John Schriffen¡¯s schedule over the past 72 hours would make even the most active individual want to take a nap.
¡°I have to remember in my head,¡± said Schriffen during a brief moment following an exciting 8-7 White Sox walk-off victory over the Mariners on Saturday in their Cactus League home opener at Camelback Ranch. ¡°Thursday was Arizona State [men¡¯s basketball in Tempe on ESPN2]. Then we had our Spring Training opener Friday at the Cubs.
¡°Then I had to take a flight that night to Vegas for a G League Ignite game vs. Osceola, the Orlando G League affiliate. I got a flight back this morning for this game today and then I¡¯ve got to get across town to Tempe for Arizona State vs. Washington State [men¡¯s basketball on ESPN2] tonight and then I fly back to Las Vegas tomorrow morning for the G League Ignite game Sunday.¡±
Ah, it¡¯s good to be young, as the 39-year-old Schriffen¡¯s lack of fatigue would attest.
¡°No, no. Let¡¯s go,¡± said Schriffen, who flew Southwest to Las Vegas on Friday and then is taking American Airlines back Sunday.
As for his first two games as the new White Sox television voice, Schriffen smiled and said analyst Steve Stone carried him.
¡°He is the funniest guy. He¡¯s the best,¡± said Schriffen of Stone. ¡°Look, it¡¯s all about having fun in the booth. It¡¯s Spring Training, and we are not seeing our everyday players out there all the time.
¡°When you can work with a guy like Steve Stone, who keeps it light and keeps it fun ¡ It¡¯s going to be great.¡±
Schriffen is looking forward to the start of the regular season, when he probably won¡¯t have to worry about 5:50 p.m. flights to Las Vegas following a nearly three hour Cactus League game in Mesa.
¡°I¡¯m going to have fun and I¡¯m going to bring the energy,¡± Schriffen said. ¡°Even a game like this, I enjoyed it. It was great.¡±
