Altuve wins seventh Silver Slugger Award
HOUSTON, TX - Louisville Slugger announced tonight that Astros second baseman Jose Altuve has won his seventh career American League Silver Slugger Award. The announcement was made tonight on MLB Network¡¯s Silver Slugger Award show.
Altuve¡¯s seven Silver Slugger Awards are the most ever by an AL second baseman and tied with Hall of Famer Ryne Sandberg for the most by a second baseman in Major League history. Sandberg won all seven of his Silver Slugger Awards while playing in the National League with the Chicago Cubs.
Altuve¡¯s seven Silver Slugger Awards are also the most in Astros history for any position.
Altuve, 34, batted .295 (185x628) with 94 runs scored, 31 doubles, 20 home runs, 65 RBI, 22 stolen bases and a .790 OPS (.350 OBP/439 SLG) in 153 games this season. Among AL second basemen, he ranked first in batting average, hits, doubles, on base percentage and slugging percentage, and was second in home runs and RBI. He notched 20-plus home runs and 20-plus stolen bases for the third time in his career and for the first time since 2017. Altuve was selected to his ninth career All-Star Game this season, including his sixth career fan selection as a starter. He won this year's AL Silver Slugger Award at second base over fellow finalists Colt Keith (DET), Marcus Semien (TEX) and Gleyber Torres (NYY).
