Astros add Gordon to 40-man roster
HOUSTON, TX ¡ª The Houston Astros have added left-handed pitcher Colton Gordon to their 40-man roster today. The deadline to protect eligible minor league players from the 2024 Rule 5 Draft is today at 5 p.m. CT.
Gordon, 25, pitched his entire 2024 season at Triple A Sugar Land, where he went 8-2 with a 3.94 ERA (54ER/123.1IP) in 25 games (24 starts). Gordon struck out 124 hitters in his 123.1 innings, while allowing a .238 opponent batting average in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League. Among qualified pitchers in the PCL, Gordon posted the lowest opponent batting average and WHIP (1.22), while ranking third in ERA and fifth in strikeouts. A Pacific Coast League All-Star, Gordon also earned PCL Pitcher of the Week honors twice in 2024 and was the Space Cowboys starting pitcher in the Triple A Championship Game victory over Omaha.
Gordon was an eighth-round pick by the Astros in the 2021 draft out of Central Florida. He's had a strong three-year minor league career (2022-24), posting a 17-10 record and a 3.74 ERA (127ER/305.1IP) in 69 games (59 starts). He owns a career opponent batting average of .226 and has struck out 353 hitters in 305.1 career minor league innings.
