Miami Marlins announce 2025 player development director personnel

MIAMI – The Miami Marlins today announced the club’s player development director personnel for the 2025 season.

The group of director personnel consists of: Director, Player Development Rachel Balkovec; Director, Clubhouse Operations Simon Beloff; Director, Minor League & Field Operations Hector Crespo; Director, Catching Maxx Garrett; Director, Pitching Bill Hezel; Director, Baserunning Nick McIntyre; Director, Hitting Joe Migliaccio; Director, Outfield Nathan Mikolas; Director, Strength & Conditioning, Alex Ross; Director, Nutrition, Bryan Snyder; Director, Athletic Training & Rehabilitation, Corey Tremble.

Balkovec begins her second campaign as Director of Player Development after joining the organization before the 2024 season. Previously, she spent two seasons as Manager of the Single-A Tampa Tarpons in the Yankees organization (2022-23). Prior to serving as the first full-time female manager in affiliated baseball history, she served as Hitting Coach for the FCL Yankees, was a member of the American League coaching staff at the SiriusXM Futures Game (2021), and spent three seasons working in strength and conditioning in the Astros organization (2016-19). She also served as an Apprentice Hitting Coach with the Netherlands National Baseball and Softball teams while pursuing a master’s degree in biomechanics (2018-19), and made stints with the Tigres del Licey of the Dominican Winter League, Sydney Blue Sox of the Australian League, Arizona State University, Louisiana State University, Chicago White Sox, and St. Louis Cardinals, where she originally got her start in the Minor Leagues as a Strength and Conditioning Coaching Intern.

Beloff enters his first campaign as Director of Clubhouse Operations after serving as Minor League Clubhouse Manager with the Marlins for the past four years (2020-24). This year marks Beloff’s 12th campaign with the organization, which also includes six seasons as Jupiter Clubhouse Manager (2014-2020). In his role, Beloff will oversee all aspects of clubhouse management, ensuring a professional environment for players, coaches, and staff throughout the season. A native of Jupiter, Fla., the former outfielder played collegiate baseball for two years at Shippensburg University (2012-13) and Harford Community College (2009-11).

Crespo enters his 10th year with the Marlins organization and his first as Director of Minor League & Field Operations, where he oversees all Minor League and Player Development operations while scaling new on-field development programming and practice design for Minor League players. Crespo is also responsible for the development of Minor League infielders in the Marlins system. He started with the Marlins as an Assistant of Player Development (2016) before earning promotions to Coordinator of Player Development and International Operations (2017), Assistant Director of Player Development (2018), and Director of Minor League Operations (2022). He was selected by the Yankees in the 34th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft and played professional baseball for the River City Rascals in the Frontier League (2014). He played collegiate baseball at Appalachian State University where he was named the first freshman in program history to earn All-America honors (2010).

Garrett begins his first season as Director of Catching after joining Miami last year as Hitting and Catching Coordinator. Before joining the Marlins organization, he spent five years at Driveline Baseball as the Lead Hitting Trainer and Catching Trainer. While at Driveline, Garrett oversaw the Washington location’s hitting department, managing the training plans for their highest-level athletes and leveraging data for designing, implementing, and executing hitting and catching programs. The Kennewick, Wash., native played Division I baseball at Gonzaga University (2011-12) before spending six years in independent leagues, including the Frontier League and the American Association.

Hezel joins the organization as Director of Pitching after spending the last two seasons with the Angels. He started his tenure with the Angels as Assistant Major League Pitching Coach (2023) before transitioning to Pitching Integration Strategist this past campaign. The Hackettstown, N.J., native previously spent five years working in various capacities for Driveline Baseball in Seattle, Wash., including as Director of Pitching (2020-22), while also serving as a Pitching Consultant for the Phillies (2020-21). A former collegiate baseball player at Lehigh University (2006-07) and East Stroudsburg University (2008-09), Hezel began his coaching career with Northampton Community College, working as the team's Pitching Coach and Recruiting Coordinator (2012-2016). He also spent time as Pitching Coach for the Quakertown Blazers in the Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League (2016) before serving as the Pitching Coach at DeSales University in Center Valley, Pa. (2017-18).

McIntyre enters his first year as Director of Baserunning after spending the past 16 years as Assistant Baseball Coach at the University of Toledo (2008-2024). Prior to coaching, McIntyre was selected by the Tigers in the 20th round of the 2003 First-Year Player Draft, batting .259 (356x1377) with 89 extra-base hits, 128 RBI, and 41 stolen bases in 412 games with Double-A Erie (2006-08), High-A Lakeland (2006), Single-A West Michigan (2004-05), and Low-A Oneonta (2003). A native of Lafayette, Ind., McIntyre graduated from Purdue University (2003) and later obtained an M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Toledo (2011).

Migliaccio begins his first campaign as Director of Hitting after spending the past six seasons in various roles with the Yankees organization. In this new strategic management position, Migliaccio will lead the organization’s hitting infrastructure and hitting development across all levels. He most recently served as the Yankees Minor League Hitting Coordinator (2022-24) after working as Hitting Coach at several Yankees Minor League affiliates, including Double-A Somerset (2021) and High-A Tampa (2019-20). Before joining the Yankees, he served as Hitting Coach at the University of Iowa (2018), Graduate Assistant at the University of Missouri (2017), Volunteer Assistant Coach at Southeast Missouri State University (2016), Volunteer Assistant at Siena College (2014-15), and Assistant Coach with the Liberal Bees in the Jayhawk Baseball League (2014). A native of West Melbourne, Fla., he also played as an infielder at Florida International University (2009-10), Parkland College (2010-12), and Oral Roberts University (2012-14).

Mikolas begins his first season as Director of Outfield after serving as a Roving Defensive Coach last season, where he oversaw all outfielders and baserunners at various levels in the Marlins organization. Mikolas has also worked with Single-A Jupiter as a Defensive Coach (2022-23) and has experience in various coaching roles with the Clinton LumberKings, Batavia Muckdogs, and FCL Marlins. The former outfielder was selected in the third round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft by the Yankees out of Bradford High School (Kenosha, Wis.) and played in three levels over five seasons in the Yankees organization.

Ross has been named Director of Strength & Conditioning after spending the past three years as Head of Performance with United States Rugby (2021-2024). Ross has worked as Manager of Performance and Sport Science with the New York Mets (2019-21), and has experience in various roles within rugby as Physical Performance Manager with the Argentinian Rugby Union (2016-19), Head Strength & Conditioning Coach with USA Rugby (2016), and as Sports Science Manager/Strength & Conditioning Coach with The Blues (2014-16) and New Zealand Rugby (2013-16). Ross obtained an associate degree in General Studies from San Diego Mesa College (2006), a bachelor’s degree (2009) and master’s degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science from San Diego State University (2011), and a doctoral degree in Sport Science from Auckland University of Technology (2015).

Snyder starts his first year as Director of Nutrition, joining the Marlins after working with Texas A&M Athletics as their Assistant Athletics Director for Performance Nutrition (2023-24). Previously, he spent 14 years in various dietician roles with the Denver Broncos (2008-2022), including Director of Team Nutrition. With the Broncos, Snyder was part of the team that won Super Bowl 50 (2015), two AFC Championships (2013, 2015), and five AFC West division titles (2011-15). Snyder also has experience in the National Hockey League, National Basketball Association, and Major League Baseball, serving as a consultant for the Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, and Colorado Rockies. A native of Simla, Colo., Snyder graduated with a bachelor’s degree in nutrition and dietetics from the University of Northern Colorado and is Board Certified as a Specialist in Sports Dietetics.

Tremble enters his first campaign as the Director of Athletic Training & Rehabilitation, joining the organization after spending the past year as Director of Minor League Medical Operations with the Texas Rangers (2024). Tremble counts with over 16 years of experience with Major League Baseball organizations, working for over 15 seasons with the Detroit Tigers as a Medical and Rehabilitation Coordinator (2012-2023) and Minor League Athletic Trainer (2008-2012). Among his accolades, Tremble was twice named the Medical Coordinator of the Year by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (2021-22), was selected as an Athletic Trainer in the 2021 and 2023 MLB Futures Games, and was named as the Dwight Lowery Player Development Person of the Year by the Tigers organization (2017). Tremble obtained a bachelor’s degree in athletic training from Florida Southern College (2005), completed a graduate assistantship at the University of South Florida (2008), and a doctoral degree in athletic training from Florida International University (2024).
