Orioles announce information for American League Wild Card Game 1

The Orioles will host Game 1 of the American Wild Card Series on Tuesday, October 1, at 4:08 p.m. ET. Ballpark information and guidelines can be found at Orioles.com/Postseason.

PARKING LOTS: Parking lots will open to fans 3.5 hours prior to first pitch, at 12:30 p.m.

GATES OPEN: Ballpark gates will open 2.5 hours prior to first pitch, at 1:30 p.m.

FIRST PITCH: First pitch is scheduled for 4:08 p.m.

CEREMONIAL FIRST PITCH: The Orioles will welcome SCOTT VAN PELT to throw the ceremonial first pitch. A native of Brookeville, Md., graduate of the University of Maryland, and avid Maryland sports fan, Van Pelt is host of the midnight edition of SportsCenter on ESPN, which showcases his passion for sports, with his self-deprecating wit and disposition toward celebrating stars and storylines.

In August of 2023, Van Pelt was named host of Monday Night Countdown, the pregame show for ESPN’s Monday Night Football. In addition, Van Pelt serves as the main host of ESPN’s golf coverage, including the Masters and the PGA Championship, two of professional golf’s majors, and he hosts SportsCenter reports and specials from the events. He also hosts ESPN Audio’s weekly SVPod podcast and the monthly Bad Beats program based on a popular segment from his television show.

Van Pelt joined ESPN in early 2001 as the network’s lead professional golf reporter, shortly thereafter becoming a SportsCenter anchor and later a co-host on ESPN Radio of Tirico and Van Pelt each weekday afternoon. In July 2009, The Scott Van Pelt Show made its debut on ESPN Radio and in a simulcast on ESPN2. The show was re-named SVP & Russillo in October 2012, and ended in the summer of 2015 when Van Pelt was preparing for the launch of the new midnight SportsCenter. Van Pelt also contributed to ESPN College GameDay for several years with his “Bald Man on Campus” feature.

Van Pelt came to ESPN from The Golf Channel, where he was an anchor and reporter for the sport-specific network from 1994-2000. During his years there, he was the co-host of studio programs Golf Central, Leaderboard Report and occasional host of Viewer’s Forum. Van Pelt began his sports broadcasting career at WTTG-TV (FOX) in Washington, D.C., in 1990. He worked in WTTG sports studio production department contributing content for the station’s The 10:00 News, Sunday Night’s Sports Extra and specials on the now-Washington Commanders.

NATIONAL ANTHEM: The Orioles will welcome back ANDR? WILSON to perform his rendition of the national anthem. A Salisbury, Md., native, Wilson has a passion for music and singing that was birthed at a young age when he began singing in his church choir at the age of 4. He is a graduate of Frostburg State University and a part of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. With 13 years of experience at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, he has also captivated audiences at additional sports events and venues in the area, including DC United, The Cal Ripken World Series, and Premier Lacrosse teams.

COLOR GUARD: Members of the Baltimore City Fire Department will present the colors from the field during the national anthem.

FLYOVER: The national anthem performance will conclude with a flyover by Foxtrot from the Baltimore City Police Aviation Unit.

FLAG DROP: A 30’ x 42’ flag from Fort McHenry will be l???owered from the batter’s eye during the national anthem performance. The flag is a replica of the one that flew over Fort McHenry when Francis Scott Key wrote the Star-Spangled Banner. Members of the Fort McHenry Guard will help unfurl the American flag.

COMMUNITY GROUPS: For each 2024 Postseason game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards, the Orioles will invite students, teachers, and staff from Harlem Park Elementary Middle School to enjoy the excitement of Orioles playoff baseball. The Orioles announced their Adopt-A-School campaign in April, which supports Harlem Park Elementary Middle School, a Baltimore City Public School serving more than 440 students and staff, grades pre-K through eight. The Adopt-A-School campaign is grounded on the belief that unwavering support and solid opportunities can play a pivotal role in accelerating student and school success. Throughout the season, the Orioles have dedicated their City Connect Fridays to Harlem Park, by wearing special co-branded shirts during pregame workouts, welcoming students, teachers, and staff on the field for batting practice, and inviting the attendees to yell the ceremonial “Play Ball” before the game. Orioles players, coaches, and staff have also donated their time alongside front office employees to volunteer at the school, showcasing how the organizations’ commitment to the community exemplifies how the power of sports brings people together to create meaningful change.
