Padres thank SD during today¡¯s Community Tour
SAN DIEGO - The San Diego Padres today completed their #PadresCommunityTour, embarking on a multi-route trip that saw the organization visit various community partners and organizations throughout San Diego. Padres players, coaches, and executives were divided into four groups that hit different stops during their respective routes while thanking the community and expressing their gratitude for the fans¡¯ support.
The first route included Padres pitchers Yu Darvish, Joe Musgrove, Jason Adam, Yuki Matsui, Bryan Hoeing and Tom Cosgrove, along with infielder Eguy Rosario. The group visited Ronald McDonald House where they served lunch, took a tour, and visited with families and staff. Next, they visited with the San Diego Police Department where they enjoyed a K9 Unit and SWAT team demonstration and thanked officers for their work. The group finished the day at the Oaks Branch Boys & Girls Club, where they played whiffle ball with participants.
A second group, consisting of Padres third baseman Manny Machado, infielder Luis Arraez, pitchers Robert Suarez, Randy Vasquez, Jhony Brito and Adrian Morejon, along with pitching coach Ruben Niebla and top prospect Leodalis De Vries, visited students and staff at Pacific View Elementary School. From there, they toured the San Diego Rescue Mission South County Lighthouse where Machado presented the Rescue Mission with the cleats he wore during last season¡¯s MLB Players¡¯ Weekend in support of the organization. The group finished their leg of the tour by visiting the 32nd Street Naval Base and greeted sailors aboard the USS Makin Island.
Another group of Padres including outfielder Jackson Merrill, pitchers Michael King and Sean Reynolds, catcher Luis Campusano, and prospect Ethan Salas were joined by Padres CEO Erik Greupner and Padres Executive Vice President of Community Impact Tom Seidler. They visited Rolando Park Elementary where they took part in a school assembly, answering questions from students before visiting the San Diego Zoo and experiencing the zoo¡¯s new Panda exhibit. The third leg of the tour concluded with a visit to UCSD Hillcrest where the group signed autographs and took photos with UCSD staff.
The final group consisted of pitchers Dylan Cease, Jeremiah Estrada and Stephen Kolek, infielders Jake Cronenworth and Tyler Wade, and Padres hitting coach Victor Rodriguez. Sherman Elementary served as the first stop and saw the group play whiffle ball and visit classrooms at the school. Next on the route was a visit to a local Jack in the Box where players stepped in to help greet customers and prepare meals. Finally, the group visited Fire Station #1 and thanked the first responders for their work.
