Phillies Announce Additional Spring Training Non-Roster Invitee
The Phillies have invited an additional player to attend major league spring training as a non-roster invitee:
Koyo Aoyagi, RHP ¨C Aoyagi, 31, is a veteran of nine seasons (2016-24) in Japan¡¯s Nippon Professional Baseball league where he was a three-time All-Star (2019, 2021-22) with the Hanshin Tigers. Over his career, he has posted a 61-47 record with six complete games, three shutouts, a 3.08 ERA (307 ER, 898.1 IP) and 647 strikeouts in 154 games. This past season for the Tigers, the right-hander with a sidearm delivery went 2-3 with a 3.69 ERA (25 ER, 61.0 IP) in 12 games. In 2023, Aoyagi helped Hanshin capture the Japan Series title over the Orix Buffaloes. Aoyagi started Game 7 of the series-clinching game and pitched 4.2 scoreless innings as Hanshin won its second Japan Series title. Aoyagi also won a gold medal with Samurai Japan in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
