Arlington, Texas ¡ª The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Wednesday¡¯s game at Wrigley Field against the Chicago Cubs:
- OF Wyatt Langford placed on 10-day Injured List (right oblique strain).
- OF Dustin Harris recalled from Round Rock (AAA).
- UTL Ezequiel Duran recalled from Round Rock (AAA).
- INF Jonathan Ornelas optioned to Round Rock (AAA).
Langford, 23, was removed from last night¡¯s game at Chicago-NL following his plate appearance in the 7th inning. The outfielder started each of Texas¡¯ first 12 games in leftfield, hitting .244/.333/.561/.894 (10-41) with a team-high 4 home runs (T4th in the A.L.), 6 RBI, 5 walks, and 6 runs scored. Since making his Major League debut on Opening Day of 2024, the right-handed hitter has accumulated a career .252/.326/.426/.752 (136-540) slash line with 20 home runs, 4 triples, 26 doubles, 80 RBI, 56 walks, 21 stolen bases, and 80 runs scored in 146 games. His 12 home runs since 9/1/24 rank 2nd in the A.L. to NYY¡¯s Aaron Judge (13 HR) during that span.
Harris, 25, has hit .184/.262/.184/.446 (7-38) with 3 walks, 5 runs scored, and 4 stolen bases in 9 games with Triple-A Round Rock this season, making starts at all three outfield positions: centerfield (4), rightfield (3), and leftfield (2). This marks the left-handed hitter¡¯s second stint with Texas, as he made his MLB debut with the club on 9/28/24 at Los Angeles-AL and went 2-for-6 with one home run, one double, and 3 RBI in the Rangers¡¯ final two games of the 2024 season. From 2021-24, Harris ranked among Texas farmhands in batting average (2nd, .278), on-base percentage (4th, .371), home runs (T4th, 61), and slugging percentage (5th, .454) across 453 minor league games. The Land O¡¯ Lakes, Fla. native was originally selected by the Athletics in the 11th round of the 2019 MLB Draft from St. Petersburg (Fla.) College and was acquired by Texas from the A¡¯s, along with OF Marcus Smith, on 9/18/20 to complete an earlier trading involving LHP Mike Minor.
Duran, 25, was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock as part of the club¡¯s roster moves yesterday, which included activating 3B Josh Jung from the 10-day Injured List. The utilityman did not see game action during his brief stint with the Express, last appearing for Texas on Monday at Chicago-NL in a reserve role at second base. In 5 games with the Rangers this season, Duran is 0-for-11 with 4 strikeouts and one RBI while being deployed defensively at third base (3 G/2 GS), second base (1 G), and as a relief pitcher on March 31 at Cincinnati (1.0 IP). He has been utilized at every defensive position except catcher with Texas since the start of 2024, seeing the bulk of his time at third base (31 G/28 GS).
Ornelas, 24, appeared in 3 games with Texas in his first Major League stint of 2025, going 0-for-4 with 3 strikeouts and one walk. The infielder made one start at shortstop (March 30 vs. Boston) and came off the bench twice to play shortstop, most recently on Monday at Chicago-NL. In 29 career Major League games, all with the Rangers from 2023-25, the Glendale, Ariz. product has batted .188/.250/.229/.479 (9-48) with 2 doubles, 3 RBI, 3 walks, and 3 runs scored.
With today¡¯s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club¡¯s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
