Rangers recall LHP Jacob Latz from Triple-A Round Rock, option RHP Marc Church to Triple-A Round Rock
Arlington, Texas ¡ª The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions prior to Wednesday night¡¯s game against the Los Angeles Angels at Globe Life Field.
- Left-handed pitcher Jacob Latz recalled from Triple-A Round Rock.
- Right-handed pitcher Marc Church optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Latz, who turned 29 on April 8, has gone 0-2 with a 3.12 ERA (3 ER/8.2 IP) and 14 strikeouts/8 walks over 5 games/one start with Triple-A Round Rock this season, last pitching in Sunday¡¯s win over Oklahoma City at Dell Diamond (GS, ND, 2.2 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 SO, 43 pitches/33 strikes). The southpaw was optioned to minor league camp on March 9 after appearing in just one Cactus League ¡®A¡¯ game this spring (3/8 vs. KC ¨C 1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 2 SO), as he dealt with mid back tightness following his first live BP session on February 17.
The southpaw logged a career-high 46 appearances for Texas in 2024, the most by any Rangers left-hander and 4th most among club pitchers overall. Latz has seen action in three of the previous four Major League seasons with Texas (2021, 2023-24), combining for a 2-4 record and 3.46 ERA (21 ER/54.2 IP) in 50 appearances/one start. He is in his 8th professional season (all with the Rangers organization) after he was selected by Texas in the 5th round of the 2017 MLB Draft from Kent State University.
Church, 24, has posted no record and a 3.86 ERA (2 ER/4.2 IP) with 6 walks and 5 strikeouts over 5 relief appearances for Texas this season, most recently appearing in Friday¡¯s 5-3 loss to the Mariners in Seattle (1.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 SO, 10 pitches/6 strikes). The right-hander made his first career Opening Day roster in 2025 after registering a 4.15 ERA (4 ER/8.2 IP) with 12 strikeouts against 2 walks over 8 appearances in Cactus League play for the Rangers this spring.
The Atlanta, Ga. native made his Major League debut in Texas¡¯ penultimate game of 2024 on September 28, 2024 at Los Angeles-AL and has compiled a 3.18 ERA (2 ER/5.2 IP) over his 6 MLB appearances (all with Texas). Church owns a career 16-11 mark, 4.01 ERA (73 ER/164.0 IP), and 235 strikeouts/70 walks in 119 career minor league games/2 starts spanning his four professional seasons in the Rangers chain. He was originally selected by Texas in the 18th round of the 2019 MLB Draft from North Atlanta H.S.
With today¡¯s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club¡¯s Major League roster, along with three players (Cody Bradford, Jon Gray, Josh Sborz) on the 60-day Injured List.
