Red Sox Add Nine Non-Roster Invitees to 2025 Spring Training Roster
BOSTON, MA〞The Boston Red Sox have added nine non-roster invitees to the team*s 2025 Spring Training roster: shortstop Marcelo Mayer; outfielder Roman Anthony; infielder/outfielders Kristian Campbell and Abraham Toro; catchers Nathan Hickey and Mark Kolozsvary; and pitchers Jovani Mor芍n, Brian Van Belle, and Jacob Webb.
Marcelo Mayer, SS 每 Mayer, 22, will be attending his first Major League Spring Training camp. Ranked as the Red Sox* No. 3 prospect and a top 15 overall prospect by MLB.com (No. 12) and Baseball America (No. 15), the left-handed hitter batted .307 (92-for-300) with 60 runs scored, 28 doubles, eight home runs and 38 RBI in 77 games with Double-A Portland in 2024. He earned 2024 Eastern League All-Star honors and was selected to play in the 2024 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game. Selected by Boston in the first round (No. 4 overall) of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has batted .274 (289-for-1,055) with an .827 OPS in 272 career minor league games.
Roman Anthony, OF 每 Anthony, 20, will be attending his first Major League Spring Training camp. Ranked by Baseball America and MLB.com as the sport*s No. 2 overall prospect, the left-handed hitter was named Double-A Portland*s team MVP in 2024 after leading the Sea Dogs in home runs (15), slugging percentage (.489), OPS (.856), walks (tied, 48), extra-base hits (38), and total bases (158). He also played in 35 games for Triple-A Worcester, batting .344 (45-for-131) with a .463 on-base percentage and .982 OPS. Selected by Boston in the second round of the 2022 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has batted .284 (262-for-923) with an .871 OPS in 245 career minor league games, making 156 starts in center field, 25 in right field, 23 in left field, and 38 as the designated hitter.
Kristian Campbell, INF/OF 每 Campbell, 22, will be attending his first Major League Spring Training camp. He is ranked as a top 10 overall prospect by Baseball America (No. 4) and MLB.com (No. 7), as well as the Red Sox* No. 2 prospect by each publication. The right-handed hitter split 2024 between High-A Greenville (40 games), Double-A Portland (56 games), and Triple-A Worcester (19 games), batting .330 (142-for-430) with 32 doubles, three triples, 20 home runs, 94 runs scored, and 77 RBI en route to being named Baseball America*s Minor League Player of the Year, The Athletic*s Prospect of the Year, and Double-A Eastern League Most Valuable Player. Selected by Boston in the fourth round of the 2023 First-Year Player Draft, the Tennessee native made 35 starts at second base, 32 at shortstop, 25 in center field, 16 as the designated hitter, and five at third base.
Abraham Toro, INF/OF 每 Toro, 28, played in 94 games for the Athletics in 2024, batting .240 (81-for-337) with 17 doubles and six home runs while making 49 starts at third base, 17 at second base, 11 as the designated hitter, four at first base, and one in left field. The switch hitter (hyphenate) has batted .220 (259-for-1,179) with 42 doubles and 34 home runs in 365 Major League games with the Houston Astros (2019-21), Seattle Mariners (2021-22), Milwaukee Brewers (2023), and Athletics (2024). Originally selected by the Astros in the fifth round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Canada native has batted .278 (509-for-1,830) with an .835 OPS in 498 career minor league games.
Nathan Hickey, C 每 Hickey, 24, will be attending his second consecutive Major League Spring Training camp. The left-handed hitter batted .209 (80-for-382) with 25 doubles, 13 home runs, 63 RBI, and 81 walks in 112 games in 2024 between Double-A Portland (26 games) and Triple-A Worcester (86 games), starting 46 games as the catcher, 18 at first base, and 45 as the designated hitter. Selected by the Red Sox in the fifth round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida Native has batted .242 (248-for-1,024) with 48 home runs and an .827 OPS in 296 career minor league games.
Mark Kolozsvary, C 每 Kolozsvary, 29, played in 27 games with Triple-A Worcester during 2024, making 20 starts as the catcher and one as the designated hitter. The right-handed hitter has played in 11 career Major League games with the Cincinnati Reds (2022) and Baltimore Orioles (2023). In his 320 career minor league games as the catcher, Kolozsvary has thrown out 115 of 393 runners attempting to steal (29.3%). Originally selected by Cincinnati in the seventh round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, the Florida native has batted .209 (231-for-1,103) in 352 career minor league games.
Jovani Mor芍n, LHP 每 Mor芍n, 33, missed the entire 2024 season recovering from Tommy John surgery. The left-hander has pitched in 79 Major League games, all in relief for the Minnesota Twins (2021-23), posting a 4.15 ERA (42 ER/91.0 IP) with 112 strikeouts. Originally selected by Minnesota in the seventh round of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft, the Puerto Rico native was acquired by Boston in exchange for catcher/infielder Mickey Gasper on December 24, 2024. He also owns a 2.90 ERA (83 ER/257.2 IP) with 384 strikeouts in 138 career minor league games (seven starts).
Brian Van Belle, RHP 每 Van Belle, 28, will be attending his first Major League Spring Training camp. The right-hander went 8-2 with a 4.42 ERA (46 ER/93.2 IP) and 87 strikeouts in 30 games (nine starts) for Triple-A Worcester in 2024. He also pitched in seven games (four starts) for Criollos de Caguas of the Puerto Rican Winter League in 2024, posting a 4.29 ERA (10 ER/21.0 IP). Originally signed by the Red Sox as a non-drafted free agent in June 2020, the Florida native owns a 4.65 ERA (233 ER/451.1 IP) with 438 strikeouts across 103 career minor league games (76 starts).
Jacob Webb, RHP 每 Webb, 25, will be attending his first Major League Spring Training camp. The right-hander pitched in 41 games (seven starts) in 2024, going 10-3 with a 4.95 ERA (46 ER/83.2 IP) and 81 strikeouts for Double-A Portland (37 games, seven starts) and Triple-A Worcester (four games). Originally selected by the Red Sox in the 14th round of the 2021 First-Year Player Draft, the Ohio native has recorded a 4.26 ERA (100 ER/211.1 IP) in 134 career minor league games (eight starts).
