Red Sox announce roster moves
BOSTON, MA¡ªThe Boston Red Sox today announced the following roster moves:
Placed catcher Connor Wongon the 10-Day Injured List with a left fifth finger fracture.
Recalled catcher Blake Saboland right-handed pitcher Josh Winckowski from Triple-A Worcester.
Designated right-handed pitcherRobert Stock for assignment.
The Red Sox¡¯ 40-man roster is now at 39.
Wong, 28, has played nine games this season, making seven starts as the catcher and going 2-for-23. Originally selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the third round of the 2017 First-Year Player Draft, the Texas native has played 294 career games with the Red Sox (2021-25), making 231 starts as the catcher, seven as the designated hitter, six at first base, and one at second base while batting .252 (227-for-902) with 23 home runs, 53 doubles, and 96 RBI.
Sabol, 27, has played six games for Triple-A Worcester this season, batting .250 (5-for-20) with two doubles and four RBI while making four starts as the catcher and two as the designated hitter. The left-handed hitter was acquired from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for international bonus pool space on January 15, 2025 and played in 11 Grapefruit League games for the Red Sox. Originally selected by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the seventh round of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has played in 121 career Major League games with the Giants (2023-24), making 53 starts as the catcher and 32 in left field while hitting .243 (83-for-342) with 13 home runs and 45 RBI.
Winckowski, 26, has made two appearances for Triple-A Worcester this season, striking out nine batters over 6.0 innings while allowing four runs (three earned) on 12 hits and one walk. Originally selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft, the Ohio native has posted a 4.21 ERA (108 ER/230.2 IP) with 186 strikeouts in 115 career games (21 starts) for the Red Sox (2022-24). Since the start of 2023, the right-hander owns a 3.48 ERA (62 ER/160.1 IP) in 100 Major League games (seven starts).
Stock, 35, pitched 2.0 innings last night against the Toronto Blue Jays, allowing one run on three hits and a walk. The right-hander has pitched in two games (one start) for Triple-A Worcester this season, tossing 8.1 scoreless innings with three walks and 12 strikeouts. He was signed by Boston as a minor league free agent on January 15, 2025, and pitched in three Grapefruit League games for the Red Sox. Originally selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft, the California native has recorded a 4.70 ERA (39 ER/74.2 IP) in 56 career Major League games (three starts) with the San Diego Padres (2018-19), Red Sox (2020, 2025), Chicago Cubs (2021), and New York Mets (2021).
