Three Colorado Rockies Named 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove Finalists

DENVER – It was announced by Rawlings today that Rockies center fielder Brenton Doyle, third baseman Ryan McMahon and shortstop Ezequiel Tovar have been named finalists for the 2024 Rawlings Gold Glove Award at their respective positions.

Doyle, 26, is a finalist for the second year in a row after being named the National League Gold Glove winner in center field in 2023. In 2024, his 16 outs above average were tied for second among Major League outfielders while his 14 runs prevented tied for fourth. Additionally, his 11 defensive runs saved were tied with Michael Toglia for the most on the team and finished tied for the third-most among Major League center fielders (min. 1000 innings played). Per Fangraphs, his 11.4 UZR finished as the highest among qualified center fielders and the second-highest among qualified Major League players overall. Doyle was also named the Rockies 2024 Heart and Hustle Award winner, an award given by the MLBPAA to active players who demonstrate a passion for the game of baseball and best embody the values, spirit and traditions of the game.

McMahon, 29, has earned his fourth-straight finalist nomination at third base after moving full-time to the hot corner in 2021. Per Sports Info Solutions, his 10 defensive runs saved at third base in 2024 were tied for second in the Majors while his 9.7 UZR (Fangraphs) was the fourth-highest among all qualified position players. McMahon also led the NL with 436 total chances and 323 assists, tied for second with 33 double plays and ranked fifth with a .966 fielding percentage. Additionally, his 1.5 dWAR (Baseball Reference) ranked second among Major League third baseman (min. 95% games at third base) while his seven outs above average ranked fifth.

Tovar, 23, has been nominated as a finalist in each of his first two full Major League seasons. In 2024, he finished second among Major League shortstops with a .988 fielding percentage, tying his 2023 mark which is also the second-best single-season shortstop fielding percentage in franchise history trailing Troy Tulowitzki (.991 in 2011). Tovar led all Major League shortstops in total chances (676) and double plays (113) while also leading all Major Leaguers in assists (435). His 11.2 UZR was the best among all shortstops and finished third among qualified Major Leaguers while his 15 outs above average were tied for fourth. Additionally, he is the second shortstop in franchise history (also: Tulowitzki, 2011) and the 15th in Major League history to log a season with at least 675 total chances and eight or fewer errors.

The award winners will officially be announced on ESPN and “Baseball Tonight” at 8:30 ET on Sunday, Nov. 3rd.
