DETROIT – Former Detroit Tigers manager Jim Leyland – who was enshrined into the National Baseball Hall of Fame on July 21 – will see No. 10 retired in his honor by the organization on Saturday, August 3 at Comerica Park when the Tigers host the Kansas City Royals at 6:10 p.m. Limited tickets are available for the celebratory game, in addition to special events attended by Leyland for fans throughout the weekend.

The “Leyland Legend 2-Pack” includes a ticket to the August 3 game and the series opener on September 10 against the Colorado Rockies, whom Leyland managed during the 1999 season. Leyland’s No. 10 will become the 10th number retired in Tigers history, and just the second number of a manager, joining Sparky Anderson, who’s No. 11 was retired by the organization in 2011. Leyland is one of three managers in Tigers history to win at least 700 games with Detroit, and the only skipper to lead the Tigers to postseason berths four times in his career.

Leyland spent 22 seasons as a Major League manager, including the final eight wearing the Olde English ‘D’. He finished his career with 1,769 victories, which ranks 18th in Major League history, while he managed 3,499 games, the 17th-highest total in baseball history. Leyland’s No. 10 will be permanently stenciled alongside other Tigers legends in center field at Comerica Park.

Over his eight years as the Tigers skipper, Leyland posted a 700-597 (.540) record. He was named the American League Manager of the Year by the BBWAA in 2006. In 2017, he was tabbed by Major League Baseball to manage Team USA in the World Baseball Classic and led the Stars and Stripes to a championship, defeating Puerto Rico, 8-0, in the title game.

Following his retirement as a manager, Leyland was named a Special Assistant to the President of Baseball Operations and continues to serve in that role. In addition to his managerial stints with the Tigers and Rockies, Leyland also managed the Pirates (1986-96) and Marlins (1997-98). He led Florida to its first World Series championship in franchise history in 1997, defeating Cleveland in seven games.

From 11:30 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 3, Leyland will sign autographs for fans that purchase autograph tickets in advance through Tigers Authentics, or at the event in The D Shop at Comerica Park. Jim Leyland Hall of Fame Plaque Available for Fan Engagement: Saturday, August 3

Leyland’s National Baseball Hall of Fame plaque will be on-site at Comerica Park on Saturday, and available for fan photo opportunities and engagement. The plaque will be located near section 101 on the concourse upon gates opening and will be part of the pregame on-field ceremony. It will then be escorted back to section 101 for additional fan engagements from the second inning through the seventh inning.

Leyland’s special on-field ceremony will feature former Tigers players during Leyland’s tenure and other special guests. Leyland’s family will also be in attendance.

Fan Q&A on Comerica Park concourse: Sunday, August 4

Prior to the Sunday, August 4 game, ticketed fans are invited to enjoy a conversation with Leyland on the Comerica Park concourse from 12:15-12:45 p.m.
