Twins announce baseball operations staff promotions
MINNEAPOLIS-ST. PAUL, MN ¨C The Minnesota Twins today announced the promotions of Alex Hassan, Sean Johnson and Josh Kalk to Assistant General Manager, in recognition of their contributions and impact within the club¡¯s Baseball Operations Department.

"Their work has been pivotal in building a strong major league roster and one of the top farm systems in the game. Their individual expertise and dedication are essential to achieving our goals as a team."
Hassan enters his eighth year with the Twins after serving as the club¡¯s Vice President, Hitting Development & Acquisitions since November 2022. In this role, he will work more closely with the major league team and hitting group while continuing to collaborate with player development leaders, coordinators, and coaches on on-field strategy and skill development plans. Additionally, Hassan will remain actively involved in all facets of offensive player acquisition. The Milton, Massachusetts native joined the organization in February 2018 and spent five seasons in Minnesota¡¯s player development department, serving as Director, Player Development from 2020-22 and Assistant Director, Player Development from 2018-19. Hassan, who played for eight years professionally and briefly in the major leagues with the Boston Red Sox in 2014, was originally drafted by Boston in the 20th round of the 2009 First-Year Player Draft after a standout career as a two-way player at Duke University. Across his playing career he spent time with the Red Sox (2009-14), Texas Rangers (2015), Oakland Athletics (2015), Toronto Blue Jays (2015), and Los Angeles Dodgers (2016) systems and served as a Player Development Consultant for the Dodgers in 2017.
Johnson, who has served as the Twins¡¯ Vice President of Amateur Scouting since January 2022, enters his 24th season with the organization in 2025. His primary focus will continue to be leading the club¡¯s amateur scouting group and overseeing preparation for the First-Year Player Draft. In this role, he will guide the development of the club¡¯s amateur scouting philosophies and staff, ensuring a strong pipeline of future talent. Johnson originally joined the Twins as an area scout focusing on the territory of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado in 2002, before being promoted to West Coast Supervisor in 2007. A former catcher at Wichita State University from 1996-98, Johnson earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in exercise science and sport administration in 1999. Following his playing career, he served as Director of Baseball Operations at his alma mater from 2000-01.
Kalk, who has spent the last three seasons as Vice President of Baseball Operations Strategy & Innovation, enters his eighth year overall with the team. He will contribute to all facets of the Twins¡¯ baseball strategy, with a particular focus on integrating insights from the Baseball Research and Development staff. He will continue to play a key role in assisting major league staff and player development personnel with specialized information while leading the club¡¯s advance scouting team. Kalk joined the Twins as Senior Analyst, Baseball Research and Development in December 2017. Prior to that, he spent nine seasons in the baseball operations department of the Tampa Bay Rays (2009-17). He holds a Master of Science degree in physics from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and mathematics from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
