Clark the Cub's spider prank shows that he's already in mid-season form
As a mascot, Clark the Cub's only job is to entertain people. To do that consistently, one has to innovate with new props or pranks to keep long-time fans on their toes with something new. However, a mascot also has to "play the hits" to develop an identity and give the fans something to expect.
Just one week into Spring Training, it looks like Clark the Cub has the hits cued up and rockin':

Since it certainly appears that Clark's go-to pranks are in mid-season form, he can now potentially use the rest of Spring Training to workshop some new ideas for 2018. If they turn out anywhere near as successful as "spider on fishing rod," fans at Wrigley will be in for a treat.
