The dad of a young Phillies fan was told mid-conversation his son was playing catch with Chad Kuhl
Ryan Payzant was in the middle of a conversation with a fellow baseball dad when he was told his son was "playing catch with a Pirate." He glanced over to see his 8-year-old, Colin, tossing the ball with Chad Kuhl.
Ryan and Colin were on an "epic guys' trip" visiting Citizens Bank Park recently. The two Freeport, Me., natives arrived early to watch batting practice prior to the Phillies' 6-2 win over the Pirates on Saturday. Colin decided to hang out near the rails in hopes of catching some toss-ups.
Well, he certainly got in on some action -- but Kuhl did one better and had a game of catch with the young fan for quite a while:
A special shout out to Chad Kuhl @KuhlWhhip_11 for this special moment he shared with my son on Saturday. A real class act and a moment my son won¡¯t soon forget. Good luck on your start today, we¡¯ll be cheering for you!@Pirates @MLB @MLBNetwork @IntentionalTalk @MadDogUnleashed pic.twitter.com/HxPSDpfo0A

"This went on for several minutes," Ryan told MLB.com. "Chad said to my son 'You've got a sweet arm, brother.'"
When they finished playing catch, Kuhl went to the ball bag and grabbed a fresh ball and tossed it up to Colin. Ryan said he was stunned and touched by the gesture, and they are both still trying to wrap their heads around it.
Really cool.
